In most, if not all, cases it's probably so they can provide a better service for all users (by keeping track of advert servers to block, for example), but of course the scaredy-cat conspiracy-nutter Americans are all jumping up and down in horror, and claiming the sky is falling, yet again. :-\

That means he makes up excuse after excuse after excuse for Apple behavior. I was the first one to report this (days ago) to the mac groups: EnGadget: Popular Mac app steals users' history & sends it to China <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.mac.apps/IYoKdcFnsGA> In this case, yet again, Your Name gets the facts wrong. The problem isn't what the app does. The problem is that the app violate's Apple's own rules. Those rules are what Apple Marketing touts to make customers *feel* safe! Worse, the problem was reported to Apple more than a month ago! And the app was still (at the time of my post) not revoked by Apple. Since the primary reason people pay more for Apple products (IMHO), is that they want Apple Marketing to make them *feel* safe, it was strange that the referenced article that broke the news concluded, verbatim: "Wardle points out the app is in violation of Apple's App Store Rules & Guidelines. But though he notified Apple of the issue a month ago, it's still available on the App Store, which is troubling to say the least." In summary, while the well-known Apple Apologist Your Name constantly makes up childishly inane excuses for Apple behavior (as do all the Apple Apologists), if the Apple consumer's primary concern is for Apple Marketing to make them *feel* safe (even though they're not actually safe since the weak links of all consumer computer operating systems is the same), then Apple yet again failed their loyal customers by not revoking an app that they *knew* violated their own guidelines. I only speak fact. *Such facts don't fit into the Apple Apologists' imaginary belief system.*

There was nothing inherently wrong with the "puck" mouse as such, other than some people apparently being too stupid to know which way was "up", despite a cable coming out of the top of it and a physical, visible button ... probably the same people who complain about USB socket and cables only going in one way because they're too damn lazy to simply turn the plug over. :-\ There have certainly been worse mice from Apple and other makers. The silly "squeeze me" button on the later Apple mouse was a much sillier idea and a complete pain in the backside - I always switched that off on every Mac I set-up for people. Apple's Magic Mouse can also be a nuisance since you can't rest your fingers on it without it thinking you are making touch gestures (another "feature" to always turn off).

The Mighty Mouse was fine, although people who don't wash their hands had problems with the trackball getting gunked up. The Magic Mouse is okayish, apart form the silly touch gestures. It is a bit too low profile and seems to have a tendency to pinch your fingers underneath it.
