Nop. It won't let you launch it until you go to the preferences and
choose "Any" (which doesn't appear possible anymore with High Sierra).

I remember after going to Yosemite when the upgrade changed the setting
and was taken aback that I couldn't run some apps and the error message
was not obvious (something about lacking privileges).

It is, but you have to change something else to make the option appear
(unfortunately I can't recall what, but I remember thinking "fuck that
noise".)

Use this command in Terminal:

sudo spctl --master-disable

I found this by googling "high sierra allow apps from anywhere"

I had written the post after finding out that the GUI no longer offered
it and didn't have time to start googling.

Thanks to your pointer, I can do "man spctl" and get the current
information (googling doesn't always give current or accurate information)

The neat thing is that it appears one can have a secure policy, and then
enable "antwhere" apps one by one:

To allow Frobozz.app to run on the local system:
spctl --add --label "My Stuff" /Applications/Frobozz.app

So if you donwload something and it is blocked, you can decide to enable
that one because you trust where you got it from, while keeping doors
closed for astuff you haven't approved.

That is correct.

In normal course, such software should be carefully selected.

KnockKnock is a good example of software you might choose to utilise.

That's what William Poaster does when he gets caught. He immediately creates a sock, starts a thread so he can claim it was an accident. Don't blame me it was my left hand... and then William Poaster replies to it with his right hand. You guys can only appreciate things from the perspective of a psychopath.

Not only did benj's request fail to touch on the "DE", it has zilch to do with open source. William Poaster should get back on his medicine ;)

You're like a bullfrog in a library. We all see you there and tell you as much. And you're so brain-dead you keep doing it. You likely think Ubuntu handles the desktop well. Nope. Not compared to what I have. Turns out William Poaster's constant mentioning of benj met his own definition of trolling, so he accused benj of making that up.

Nobody gets it, I barely understand it. Perhaps you use it wrong. Do you not realize the use of encryption?

Gee, imagine owl trying to pin his phooey on God, no one has ever seen that before <shrug>. God created at least 20 KVMS in the last year or so. I bet nobody else has ever done that. This is something you merely pretend to understand. The advocates say searching for a suggestion for an RMS-approved application is trolling.

Please ask your question on the Apple Support Communities forums.

You'll get an answer there which will invariably be correct.

You installed and deleted competing systems and your "intuitions" lead you to that opinion, so what? Melzzzzz-like idiots are now talking about the Elementary OS "GUI" as if that seriously would even make sense. Plenty of people continue replying to Melzzzzz. To be clear, I don't blame The Holy Ghost for being pissed but, truly, I don't conceive why he comes here after all this nonsense. The Holy Ghost is expecting dialog as seen in a moderated venue and unmoderated groups just are not it.

I have a little script I use as well, but it's better than yours. So Melzzzzz changed his story to The Holy Ghost "mentioning" him. Did he think that was clever?

Despicable Owl would have to be afflicted with mental illness to be unsure of whether or not he "never had" purchased a website. Remind you of anyone? When a guy can't be consistent with his story and employs dishonest, face saving drivel later, it's mighty obvious what his trolling is.

He pisses off an entire group of people who have done nothing wrong, but that's a self-centered troll for you. What Jesus and I care about isn't a factor. Jesus can create a virtual machine. Makes Despicable Owl cry because he can not.

I have known AI programs who argue better than you do. With no evidence at all, as is expected for DFS.

You insisting a lie is real does not make it true. Don't look now, but I think DFS has a serious woody for Jeff Relf.

Snit Glasser is far too stupid to write a quality script. The only scripting he's able to do is simple stuff I did years ago. Steve Petruzzellis just wiped the floor with Snit Glasser. Trinity is perhaps my second favorite DE and the only one I recommend to Windows converts. Primary interface is Budgie, though. A modern look is all you require after you get used to it. I think it is already over.
