On my Apple IIe I used the original Apple Works with WP, Spread Sheet,
and Database in one suite. It just worked. No fancy GUI, just green
screen.

That's probably what I was using, too. Big difference when I got my
first Mac! 8-)

ClarisWorks used the Claris XTND system. That allowed read/write capability
of a variety of file formats.

Well, I've never thought of Word as an Apple program, unlike all the WP
programs I've used. Saving to Word for someone who demands it is not
using the thing, in my opinion.

I don't believe that for minute unless you are still running 10.5 and
Classic OS apps as your main apps.

Again, unless you are relying on documents from 1990s era apps I don't
believe you.

I'm not, of course, but there are a number of programs I can barely
access with 10.6.8 and THAT upgrade killed my local network connection
to others on the old computer where they reside and wiped out some
things entirely.

Nah, MTNW is the black knight after his legs and arms are cut off.

Open the unit up and take a gander. "the guy" probably wired it
correctly but may not have tightened everything down enough, or just
time has shaken something loose. Even a bit of loose metal may have
gotten in there causing a partial short. Or ... (etc).
