Well, there was no new hardware announcements at WWDC. The wait for all
the rumoured new products continues. :-)

When's the next logical time to roll something out?

September for the iPhone and October for the iPad.

I don't see any major Macintosh announcements in the near future, but
there will probably be some speed bumps and more retina devices.

And a new Apple TV may be tacked onto the iPhone or iPad announcements.

Oh yes, and in 2020, the Apple Car. <snicker>

Thanks. Since I may be compelled to get a new Mac, I was hoping they'd
have a bright shiny one for me sothat--for once--I'd be coming in at
the front end of a model, rather than the very end of the line.

You might find the data in MacRumor's Buying Guide helpful:

I think there will be significant Mac updates starting in October, with
feature changes beyond just speed bumps.

Intel is supposed to be releasing their next generation processors
(Skylake) starting in the 3rd quarter (July to September). Best guess is
that they will do the official announcement on August 15, at their
developer forum. A leaked schedule suggested many of the processor
variants will be available in August to September, more in October to
November, and the rest by January (apart from Xeons, which are on a
separate schedule and are basically a generation behind).

Skylake is expected to bring gains in integrated graphics performance,
power consumption and CPU performance. Some variants will support DDR4
memory (in addition to DDR3). There is supposed to be a new wireless
charging mechanism for laptops (whether Apple uses it is an open
question) and other new wireless features.

A new Intel processor generation usually signals new Macs coming soon,
typically starting a month or two after Intel releases the processors.

A week before WWDC, Intel announced Thunderbolt 3, which they said will
be available in shipping products before the end of the year. It will be
implemented via a separate controller chip, so isn't directly linked to
Skylake, but will probably be available around the same time.

Thunderbolt 3 will be using the USB Type-C connector instead of the Mini
DisplayPort connector. It supports USB 3.1, Thunderbolt and DisplayPort.

I think Apple is very likely to adopt Thunderbolt 3 as soon as they can,
in updates across all Mac product families. The 12-inch MacBook may be
an exception, because Thunderbolt's power and space requirements don't
match well with the design of that model.

This all points to significant Mac model updates or at least an
announcement around October, which would tie in nicely with a likely
Apple media event to release iPads and OS X El Capitan.

I'm expecting Apple will announce an updated Mac Pro at the very least,
though it might not be available immediately.

Other models might be ready by October/November, but some could be
pushed into Early 2016 depending on component availability.

DisplayPort via Thunderbolt 3 will support dual 4K displays or a single
5K display (using two DisplayPort 1.2 channels), which is sufficient to
allow Apple to release a 5K Retina Thunderbolt display, and to allow an
updated 5K Retina iMac to support target display mode. I also wouldn't
be surprised to see a 4K Retina 21.5-inch iMac.

The recent update of the 15-inch MacBook Pro in mid May (about three
weeks before WWDC) signalled that Apple was going to skip the Broadwell
processor generation in the 15-inch MBP, because it was released with
the same Haswell processors as the 2014 models. A week or two later,
Intel released the Broadwell processors Apple could have used in an
updated 15-inch MBP.

It would be very odd timing for Apple to update the 15-inch MBP again
around July just for Broadwell, but a delay until about October for
Skylake fits better with past patterns.

Laptop and desktop updates are likely more tied with availability of new
and improved CPUs than on Apple's marketing plans.

If there hasn't been a significant upgrade from Intel since last year in
a certain chip application (laptop, desktop), then there isn't much of a
point in Apple announcing something totally new.

Note that Apple does make "rolling" product updates during the year
without much fanfare when a speed boost to the same chip is available
for instance. (or higher capacity disks).
