Is there any way to permanently decline updates in applications? There
are a number I neither want nor care about (principally iTunes) and although
I can delete the app (rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app), the App Store just
keeps putting it back. There must be a list somewhere of which apps must be
updated - is there any to edit that list?
BTW, Apple, this is *my* computer and *I* decide what applications run on
it. If you want to play games like that, Linux is looking more and more
attractive, especially given that I already run it on my other machines.

You can turn off automatic updates, but you'll continue to get annoyingly prompted about crap you don't ant tuo update (for me it's thngs like the RAW camera updates- the only camera I own that can connect to a computer is my iPhone, so the RAW updates are a total friggin' waste of time; I ownly download then to stop getting the effin' prompts). > BTW, Apple, this is *my* computer and *I* decide what applications run > on it. Their target demographic is people who want a computing appliance (about 99% of the public rather than the 1% who has the skills to figure out how to run Linux). (2) they can't hear you from this newsgroup. (3) they probably don't if you go and use Linux- especially if you buy Apple hardware on which to run Linux. ;-)

Yeah, I know. But I had to vent somewhere. I bought the Macbook Air because
I needed a laptop and I love the hardware. The software, less so.

What drivers/modules do you use to support the Air for example what driver is used for the trackpad do the special buttons all work too volume, etc. can you share the kernel .config or do you use a default config

No idea.
One of the reasons I bought the Air was that I'm sick of twiddling about
with computers to get shit working. I've been doing it 41 years and now
I just want them to work. That's one of the drivers keeping me on MacOS.
OTOH, Mint 17 on my bogo desktop machine "Just Worked".

Not sure why Mr Comet even asked the questions, to which the answers are: none, fuck knows, yes, and how should I know. -- "Please stop telling us what you feel. Please stop telling us what your intuition is. Your intuitive feelings are of no interest whatsoever, and nor are mine. I don't give a bugger what you feel, or what I feel. No problem.
Actually, one of the drivers stopping me from trying it is that I have no
idea how to get Mavericks back once I've tried Mint and discovered that loads
of stuff doesn't work properly. (This is not a request for a description of
how to do that - I don't care.)
I have got Mint running in VirtualBox on the Air, but I rarely use it. I guess
that says something, but I don't know what.

I guess that says something, but I don't know what. maybe just as a subliminal mental security blanket gives you options should you need them i thinking about this lately and I'd rather leave the macosx install alone and do any open sores stuff in a virtual linux
