No, because you can't buy a serial/key for it. It has a fair amount of value, but somebody out there doesn't want you to have it so sooner or later you'll be screwed.

I got a copy of Thoth, I think 1.8, and the author sent me the key since I bought it. I have heard of other updates, but is the author off the grid or something?

What happened to Brian Clarke, is it? When I bought the app, I think it was $25, I sent him the money with a nice note, I didn't know at the time he had a "reputation". Since then, I heard that he only would sell you the upgrades/keys if he felt good at the time! Coming from the world of OS/2, which I was also using at the time, I did not understand pique by software writers(since most OS/2 software was written by IBM employees!).

Basically he had public tantrums over Thoth not selling well enough, being pirated, and accusations he stole open source code from NewsWatcher (used with permission in his free Yet Another NewsWatcher <http://www.macorchard.com/classic/usenet/YetAnotherNewsWatcher.php> client - Thoth's predecessor) to use in Thoth. Rather than take a sensible approach to Thoth not selling well, such as simply not continuing development, or scaling back his support (as MacSOUP's author did), in order to meet the reality of the now tiny Mac Usenet client market; Brian threw several wobblies and on multiple occasions has revoked sales and thus codes to enable Thoth to run past it's trial period. If his fantasy of whatever number of sales would be required to feed his ego doesn't materialise, then dammit - he won't sell Thoth to _anyone_ LOL. -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

One of his little games involved "bundling" Thoth with a pretty poor "document viewer" and then demanding that you pay for the viewer; he had no right to charge for Thoth because the source-code didn't belong to him. To Be Fair: He didn't "steal" it, though. When people refused to buy his crappy viewer (this at a time when Adobe Reader was available), he began throwing his fits. I've never used Thoth, and I won't even pirate it. -- Too much kipple.

To Be Fair: He didn't "steal" it, though. Yes he did. He claimed copyright on code he did not write. Well, we assume since Toth looked like previous programs and had identical bugs in several cases. > When people refused to buy his crappy viewer (this at a time when Adobe > Reader was available), he began throwing his fits.
