Earlier today, the computer stopped responding to keypresses on my
keyboard. The Bluetooth connection did not break, and the keyboard's
battery was 100%. The only way I was able to fix it was to reboot the
computer.

I had the exact same thing happen on my 2009 MBP with the internal
keyboard. I finally had to close the lid and let it sleep (just closing
it was not enough) and then wake it up.

I assumed it was a flakiness in my 6 year old laptop.

A USB driver issue, no doubt.

Mine did that a while back. Never figured out why.

Happens now and then, even with an attached usb keyboard, restarts
always seem to fix. Apart from just mysterious, there is sometimes but
not always evidence of slowdown in the text appearing, not plain
no-show. Restart also usually fixes.

Hm, I sometimes have this problem with my Microsoft Media PRO 3000
keyboard on 10.5 - both on a MacPro 2,66ghz and a MDD 1,25ghz. But I can
retain full use again just restarting Finder. So have you tried to just
restart Finder using the mouse? - The direct function depends on which
system you're using... If I recall right, you can hold down the mousekey
on the Finder icon to reveal the menu from 10.7.x...

Cheers, Erik Richard

For what it's worth, in a recent-ish MacFormat magazine someone was
having issues with Bluetooth devices not being recognised when waking a
sleeping Mac. The advised solution was to restart the Bluetooth drivers
using the Terminal command:

   sudo kextunload -b
      com.apple.iokit.BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBtransport

all as one line, followed by:

   sudo kextload -b
      com.apple.iokit.BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBtransport

Those could be made clickable via the mouse by making it into an
AppleScript:

do shell script "sudo kextunload -b
      com.apple.iokit.BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBtransport"
      with administrator privileges

do shell script "sudo kextload -b
      com.apple.iokit.BroadcomBluetoothHostControllerUSBtransport"
      with administrator privileges

saved as an application.

Of course, what the "expert" dimbulb in the magazine forgot is that if
Bluetooth is playing up, then the mouse may not be working (to
double-click the AppleScript application) and / or the keyboard may not
be working (to type the Terminal commands or if needed the
Administrator password).
