It's bullshit anyway, because it completely ignores the usability and
reliability aspect, not to mention the fact that with OS X your software
options are better than both Windows and Linux. Usability and software
are both more important to the average person than whether you can dive
in under the hood to make that icon or widget Cornflower Blue.

Can you provide the numbers
No idea how to gather that info

You're trying to imply that it is a low number, sure

but is it? prove it or disprove it

The big difference is that OS X works as a desktop system and Linux...
Doesn't. Never has, no signs it ever will.

Well, I beg to differ. I have run Linux as my main desktop since leaving
OS/2 in 2008. Started with Ubuntu 8.10/GNOME 2 and now am running
Scientific Linux 6.6/GNOME 2. My wife has used Linux as a desktop since
2009, when she gave up Windows 2000.

WHOOSH! Just because it *can* be used as a desktop does *not* mean it
excels at it. The reality is far from it. The smooth desktop user
experience of Mac OS X is what Linux aspires (and fails) to be on the
desktop.

You know what it does. It does Internet very well, as I have Chrome/
Firefox/Opera/Seamonkey/Thunderbird/Skype/LibreOffice, and others. I am
only getting the iMac for iTunes and my music library to update my old G4
which is running Tiger. I do not use photo programs, movies, video,
etc. Just taking your advice to get the i5 iMac with at least 8 gigs of
ram. Not really gaga over the interface, looks like my Tiger Aqua
interface, so will just get it to use as an appliance for my music.

I know what both Mac OS X and Linux do. Mac OS X is the better desktop
operating system of the two, and better than Windows as well in the ways
that count.

I will just use if for what I need it for. BTW, Sarah Lane was on TechTV/
TwiTV with Leo Laporte, cute little petite blonde! She was the host of
all the Mac/Apple show: iPad Today, iFive for the iPhone, Macbreak
Weekly, etc. She was always the machead on the show. She left TwitTV
for TechCrunch. Leo Laporte was recently here in Austin back in October
and signed my old book, "Leo Laporte's Guide to OS X Tiger".
I have too many other computers and operating systems to worry about to
use any one exclusively. As I said, Linux is the main system, WinXp/Win7
in Virtualboxes(for old games), old AMD K-6 with PC-DOS7, again, for
games), and my PS/2 with OS/2 Connect with years of my OS/2 programs and
stuff on it and to play around with.
I am drinking so much now, and feeling a little buzzed!

That explains it. While I have heard of some of those (especially
TechCrunch), I haven't watched cable television in many years.

Ah, cool. I lived in Austin for ~20 years before moving to the coast.
Howdy. : )

I used to have a variety of machines like that, most of them hand built,
but have transitioned to all Macs at home. I still run various operating
systems on my Macs, through virtualization and emulation.

As it happens, I'm about to crack open a whiskey bottle here.

Cheers! : )

Ah. Incorrect assumption, sorry. Video podcasts. I don't watch very many
of those either.

Do you watch TwitTV? I watch it every Saturday and Sunday for Leo's
show, like the old "Call For Help", then afterwards for the "GizWiz" and
on Sunday afternoon, "This Week in Tech". Also, every once in a while,
"Enterprise Linux".

Okay, so one time? In band camp? Jolly Roger <jollyroger@pobox.com> was all, like:

> I have no idea who [Sarah Lane] is, sorry.

The one I know is a long-time host form twit.tv's podcasts who has
recently changed jobs to be in charge of something or other t some other
online company. TechCrunch? iMore? Something like that.

She still does iPad Today for twit.tv, but no longer does TNT, iFive for
the iPhone, or several other shows.
