OS 10.10.2 Safari 8.0.3 About 80% of the time I go to YouTube I get a dark display (within the YouTube's frame) with the following message. Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available. Click here to visit our frequently aksed questions about HTML5 video. No, play, mute or other tools. If I click somewhere in the frame in usually goes away and I continue as always. If I trigger a page refresh it gives me the correct display maybe half the time. Sometimes I have to do it a few times. It's a pain. Others getting this? Can anything be done other than changing to another browser?

I just went to find an "example" and *everything* comes up flashing that message (above), but then quickly reverts to displaying the HTML5 icon. My issue is that sometimes it just sits on that page. I'll wait till one hangs to provide here, but as I say above, with a refresh it usually goes away. In sum, this is apparently happening to no one else?

Youtube really tries flash first. It is possible that you have flash installed but disabled and that your browser's javascript tells youtube you have flash, so youtube gives you html that tries to load flash content which then fails. Once, I tried to force html5 and it took serious efforts to get the browser to report I didn't have flash installed so youtube would revert to html5. There may be some profile ways when you login to tell youtube to use html5 by default for your username. Not sure.

Interesting. I do in fact have ClickToFlash plugged in.

I prefer my browsing experience the way it is, even if it means having to occasionally click twice on a video to load it. : ) -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. It plays fine, for me. The music plays from beginning to end, without
any hang or hitch. The video is what it is.

Were you expecting more action? There certainly isn't much of it to
miss. The few existing transitions can't be more than two or three
frames long; barely enough to be a subliminal message.

It plays fine for me too, it just gives me the display indicated in the original post: Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available. Click here to visit our frequently aksed questions about HTML5 video. And sits there. When I refresh the page it comes up right and plays just like it did for you with no further problems. Sometimes I have to refresh a 2nd or 3rd time, though I didn't have the problem with this one.
