Actually, today is "Americans write the date the wrong way round day".
It's 14/3/15.

Well, actually 2015.3.14 is the one and only 'right way round', i.e.
ISO. (Note: choice of delimiter and leading zero are allowed options
with the user.)

I learned this quite a few years ago while traveling around Africa and other parts of the Third World where I had to communicate with many nationalities whose 'native' date formats all varied. For example, if you leave a note for friends to meet you for lunch at the Thorntree Cafe in Nairobi on 4/5/whatever, it's a PITA if you show up on April 5 and they show up on May 4, when you're half way up Kilimanjaro. ISO solves this. I have met almost no one who is confused by yyyy.mm.dd, even if they have never seen it before. I did have one fellow confirm that the mm was indeed the month not the day, but month was his default assumption. So ISO is useful and I use it. -- And It's Just That Easy™

The point of my anecdotal paragraph above is that it's often _very_ important to express dates, and other information, in a nationality-neutral way. By using _all_ conventional numbers and no language, you avoid upsetting, i.e. biasing against you, people whose help you may need, with the exception of those few groups who don't use 'western' numbers; but they're usually so used to the difference they don't take offense. -- And It's Just That Easy™

Other patterns reflect the way the date is used in local speech. 15-03-2015 = "today is the 15th of March, 2015". That's how a British person is likely to say it, and therefore write it. North Americans would say "today is March 15th, 2015" and it would be written accordingly. > (Note: choice of delimiter and leading zero are allowed options > with the user.) I hate periods as delimiters, especially in phone numbers. What used to be (604) 555-1212 became 604.555.1212. This is especially prevalent in advertisements for overpriced urban condominiums. -- K. That's what I meant by "and similar", yes. Choose your preferred delimiter. : ) I prefer dash characters, personally, but am not irked if someone else chooses another. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter.
