#69369 — Remote Desktop Client Update

FromAlan Browne <alan.browne@FreelunchVideotron.ca>

SubjectRemote Desktop Client Update
Message-ID<IdudnSJM2rGkIlbJnZ2dnUU7-L-dnZ2d@giganews.com>
While updating iTunes to 12.1 it appears I seem to have hit "update all"
and gotten "Remote Desktop Client Update" as well.

AFAIK I've never had Remote Desktop client.

There is no such animal in the Apps folders (~ or /) following the update.

Okay, I see that ... and that there's been stuff there since at least
Sept 2014.

Is that always there as an agent to respond to Remote Desktop management
app?

That's why it's in CoreServices. It's ben there since at least 10.6,
possibly longer.

What are you worried about, exactly?

Just wondering why an app I don't use was being updated. It wasn't
clear which "end" of the software was being installed.

So, to be clear, it's the client end and not Remote Desktop itself?

If I delete it will the heavens crash?

It's not an app. It's core OS libraries and frameworks related to RD,
which may or may not be shared with other parts of the OS.

> So, to be clear, it's the client end and not Remote Desktop itself?

It's shared libraries.

> If I delete it will the heavens crash?

Why would you delete it, considering it has been part of Mac OS X since
at least 10.6? It's likely security and other updates to the core
operating system libraries and frameworks. If it ain't broke...

Why would "core operating system libraries and frameworks" be updated
via Remote Desktop? Or do you mean, because they've been updated that
Remote Desktop needs to be updated?

Remote Desktop libraries are part of the core. That's why they are part
of CoreServices, after all.

Doh! What I get for ignoring the whole path v. the update name.

More to the point, see
    /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/Remote\ Desktop/Client

It's been there at least since OS X 10.6.x.

But isn't on my 10.9.5 system. Apple has changed the location and name
over the years.
