I have Time Machine configured to backup to two different disk drives. It is my understanding that this will alternate the hourly backups to the two drives. If I open Time Machine preferences it does indeed show that the most recent backups to the two drives are an hour apart. However when I enter Time Machine the tabs on the righthand edge of the screen have two for each hourly backup, one for each of the backup drives. Are two concurrent backups actually happening or is this a mistaken display on the part of Time Machine? -- James Leo Ryan - Austin, Texas

My guess is that every other backup on the two drives will not show any changes. -- Barry Margolin, barmar@alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me ***

I allow the TM to produce backups at its own pace, not forced to a rigid schedule by some third party app. The tabs on the right of the TM screen show the correct times, properly interspersed as one would expect. If one of my devices is slower than the other (another computer backing up to it) the tabs on the right of the TM screen are magenta for the faster responding device and the other stay white until the second device responds.

The two drives used for the Time Machine backups are both hardware identical and are both locally connected. The timing of the backups are completely controlled by Time Machine itself. But now things get even stranger as only one backup an hour was reported for part of the day and two backups an hour for the remainder of the day. -- James Leo Ryan - Austin, Texas
