Try this, please:

Choose "About this Mac" from the Apple menu. Click on "Memory" in the
tab bar near the top of the resultant window. Click on "Memory Upgrade
Instructions" in the bottom left corner of the window.

On my system, it opens Safari to the URL
<http://www.apple.com/mx/support/>, which is a Mexican site.

Here it goes to:

Sorry and all that.

On my system, there is no "More Info..." button.

I'm running 10.10.2 A friend running 10.10.1 doesn't have a "More Info
..." button either.

It went away in 10.10.

10.6 and earlier have More Info in About This Mac, which launches System
Profiler, showing the detailed system report. There is no window in
these versions with a Memory tab like you described.

10.7 through 10.9 have More Info in About This Mac, which launches
System Information, initially showing a summary window (which has a
similar screen the one you described with memory details), and a System
Report button which gives the detailed report like the earlier System
Profiler.

10.10 replaced the traditional "About This Mac" dialog with a modified
version of the summary window from System Information. The System Report
button now launches System Information, which shows the detailed report,
like the More Info button from 10.6 and earlier.

All of 10.6 and later can go straight to the detailed report by holding
down the Option key when choosing About This Mac, which changes the menu
item to System Profiler in 10.6, or System Information in 10.7 or later.

Incidentally, my Retina MacBook Pro running 10.10.1 doesn't have a
Memory tab in About This Mac, presumably because it has soldered-in
memory with no upgrading possible. The amount of memory is shown on the
Overview tab.

What surprised me is that my iMac has it even though there's no
Apple-supported path to a memory upgrade.

Maybe that's why it pointed you to Mexico. They have less qualms about
opening up your iMac. :-)

It's removable memory all the same. I suspect that has a lot to do with
it.

What iMac do you have? Some of the later ones aren't user-upgradeable, but
most are:

I have one of those. 21.5" iMacs starting with the late 2013 models
aren't user upgradable.

Mine just goes to apple.com/support. Very dull.

I am guided to <http://support.apple.com/de-de/HT1423>, which is okay
for me.

When your Mac was first set up, what did you enter as your location? I
am not sure whether changing the settings in "Language & Text"
preferences (Language, and region in the "Formats" tab) would be enough
to bring you to another place.

Interesting. I'm running a late 2013 iMac (first generation with the
curved back and no built-in optical drive).

Well at least that's a better explanation than Apple moving it based on
Mac model. : D

I get sent to:
support-sp.apple.com/sp/index?page=cpumemory&cc=5PE&lang=en_CA

...which seems to be a dead link and immediately redirects to the most
unhelpful www.apple.com/support generic page.

I have filed a bug report to Apple about this before.
