I have an external drive with a sparse bundle disk image on it. I plug in the drive, mount the image, update and unmount the image. Then when I try to eject the drive I can't, because a dozen or so of the sparse bundle bands are "in use" by diskimages helper. I have to go to Activity Monitor and force quit diskimages helper to be able to eject the drive. Does anyone know why diskimages helper is behaving like that? Is there anything I can do about it short of the force quit song and dance I'm currently doing? -- K. Lang may your lum reek.

Even though you may have closed the file's window, some applications do behave naughtily and still stop a volume from being ejected (in some cases I think it's to do with a badly programmed Open / Save routine that keeps the location "current" for next time you bring up an Open / Save window).

Thanks but that's not it. Plug in drive, mount image, update image with SuperDuper, quit SuperDuper, unmount image. That's it. diskimagehelper seems to like to "use" a dozen of the sparsebundle's 30,000+ bands for some reason. -- K. Lang may your lum reek.

I'd guess there is either a bug in SuperDuper causing diskimages helper to retain the image, or a bug in diskimages helper itself. While the former seems more likely to me, it's hard to say without more evidence and diagnosis. I wonder if other SuperDuper users have experienced this problem. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Thanks but I'm not sure sure about that either - Superduper modifies the mounted disk image. When it's done and it quits, I can unmount the disk image just fine. It's the volume that *contains* the .sparsebundle that won't unmount. SuperDuper never directly touches that volume. -- K. Lang may your lum reek.

Not sure about what? It's either a SuperDuper problem or a diskimages-helper problem, like I said. If it were me, I would note the exact time of the SuperDuper backup, and then look at the console and system.log files for any errors within the same time span, which is your best chance of gaining insight into error conditions that may be causing the problem. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. Okay, so one time? In band camp? Király <me@home.spamsucks.ca> was all, like: > I have an external drive with a sparse bundle disk image on it. It takes a minute or two after I eject the drive, maybe. -- http://2blog.kreme.com
