I want to completely remove the "Services" item from the drop-down menu bar. Not individual services but the whole damn "Services" structure. I never use it and if I don't scroll past it fast enough, the system locks up with a beach ball while it goes out and looks for "Services". -- Nelson

I'm curious about the beachball from the pass-over. I make no use of it (other than hotkeys embedded in it that I summon); that is, I don't use it as a drop-down/select thing. Perhaps if you have a single service in the list you won't get the beachball, but I curious to know why you do, and why that isn't the problem you're trying to solve.

Which do you have? By the way ServiceScrubber may be of some use to the OP in managing what is/isn't there.

Nice. I was not aware the ability to completely enable and disable Services existed in that panel. Thanks. I have to wonder, considering the delay the OP is experiencing, whether there would be a significant difference between disabling them in the panel versus removing them completely from the Library/Services directory. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. Many services don't come from Library/Services: they are supplied directly by applications (listed in the Info.plist file in the application package). The only way to remove those ones is to delete the application (or move it out of Applications, perhaps?) -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz

That's not normal behavior. There should be no delay. What version Mac OS X are you running, and on which model/year Mac? Exactly which services do you have installed? Nelson- I have the same problem when I right-click on a file. The beach ball pops up as soon as I scroll past "Open With". The solution is to single-click but do not hold on the menu heading. The menu stays open after you let up on the mouse, and you can then click on your choice without the beach ball appearing. However, old habits are hard to break. I never remember to let up on the mouse, and the beach ball always appears! Fred
