My girlfriend has a HP Inkjet F4480 printer and has been having a lot of
trouble with it which suddenly started about 10 days ago. It has a USB
cable connection and is not on any network. She can only print one job
file after it is turned on. After the first, the queue reads that the
file is 100% complete but won't disappear. The easiest way to print the
next file is to delete the completed file from the queue manually and
turn off and restart the printer and then switch to a different app like
the browser. Very strange. She has an Airbook running 10.9.5. So far
we deleted and then downloaded the HP driver and ran disk utilities on
her hard drive. The latter reported all errors were repaired
successfully. We have tried printing in Word and Textedit to check
whether there was some sort of incompatibility between the driver and WP
app, but the same problems occurred in both. She has almost new HP
cartridges in the printer.

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.8.5 and I downloaded the driver for this
printer through Apple just as we did for my girlfriend's Airbook, only
this time the printer functioned flawlessly in all respects. Anyone
have any ideas what else we can try?

Watch the console and system logs while attempting to print to see what
error messages are sent to the log. Feel free to post messages with time
stamps corresponding to the time you actually printed here for
diagnosis.

I know probably mean MacBook Air here; but others may not. You may want
to consider referring to it with the proper name in the future to avoid
potential confusion.

Following the most recent HP Printer Software Update (version 3.0), on
08 December 2014, I had printing issues. I solved these problems,
earlier today, by downloading the current support software from HP.

Be sure she chooses the software which matches her OS version, from
the OS X drop-down menu.

It's certainly worth a shot.

HTH.

Paul-

Does the Airbook have more than one USB port? If so, try the other one.

Fred
