Being of the stubborn version of person, I decided that since Apple thinks they need a new upgraded OS with shitty fonts that certainly someone figgered out a way to replace them. So I reinstalled Yosemite beta and then found this : https://github.com/jenskutilek/FiraSystemFontReplacement Looks better and is on a per user basis, simple to implement too!! Give it a whirl and see what you think. Now I need to figger out some contrasty coloring! -- Lloyd

I've been playing around with this all morning. Finally found areas that can be changed to make Yosemite tolerable if not excellent in Accessibility inside the System Preferences on non-retina displays. Changed Display Contrast a bit and things got much better. Played with the desktop backgrounds and found a few that make things much more to my liking. I also tried 'reduced transparency' but found that looks better to me with that not selected after I changed the Display Contrast, same goes for the 'increase contrast' checkbox. Unchecked looks better to me. One thing I did find out was with iTunes. Once you go to Yosemite and get the iTunes 12 beta, the library .itl file gets changed and will not work with iTunes 11.x. For those that have their iTunes library on the same drive as everything else and did a clone backup, that won't be an issue. In my case it was as my iTunes library is on the drive attached to my TimeCapsule. -- Lloyd

Yeah they did that when they released the public beta. Frankly I think it was because of the issues being raised over the UI changes. The Yosemite beta is being discussed all over the 'net these days. -- Lloyd

Where they really want discussion is in the feedback app. As I've found things that are wrong or I don't like, I've sent a feedback to them. To be honest, I don't expect anything major like the UI fonts and skinny lines to actually be changed, one can always hope. -- Lloyd from SurfacePro via NewsgroupsRT

Discussed, yes, although really it's meant to be discussed with Apple
so they can fix bugs, make changes they feel are warranted, etc.
Discussions in general public arenas depends on *what* parts you're
discussing ...
"Those taking part in the scheme [OS X Mavericks Public Beta]
may discuss information Apple chooses to reveal, but other
discussions must be limited to Apple's dedicated discussion
boards. This secrecy is reinforced by Apple's requirement
that members of the program must be of legal age, which means
they can be prosecuted for breaking confidentiality. If you
choose to sign up, you're asked to agree to share feedback
with Apple using the Feedback Assistant app that appears in
your Dock once you begin participating in the scheme."
Of cours, few of the dweebs signing up probably bothered to actually
read the agreement.

Since Apple showed off Yosemite so well at the WWDC keynote, which was very public, there's little you can't discuss that wasn't already showed. The things that aren't being discussed much by those that got the public beta are those things that have to do with the interaction/sharing between the Mac and iOS devices since there isn't a public beta of iOS8. Almost all that I have posted in public forums has to do with the UI and that was VERY prominent at the keynote. One comment I see repeated in many places is that Yosemite looks great on retina devices and not so good on non-retina devices. I'd agree with that with the exception that I don't think Yosemite looks great on anything, but it has a much better look and feel on a retina device. The problem is that none of the iMacs have retina, and not all the laptops do. -- Lloyd

You could be surprised by what turns up in the final release ... although Apple wouldn't be stupid enough to put such things in the Public Beta anyway. > The things that aren't being discussed much by those that got the > public beta are those things that have to do with the > interaction/sharing between the Mac and iOS devices since there isn't a > public beta of iOS8. > > Almost all that I have posted in public forums has to do with the UI > and that was VERY prominent at the keynote. You said: "Public betas are supposed to be discussed. That's why they exist." I'm simply telling you that there are limits to what you are allowed to discuss and where. To find out what those are, you should have read the agreement you 'signed" by joining up to the Beta test programme. > One comment I see repeated in many places is that Yosemite looks great > on retina devices and not so good on non-retina devices. Yet. Eventually they will. Whether the rumoured Retina iMac is released about the same time as Yosemite is a different question. It's also possible that Apple will include a setting or auto-adjust feature in the final release that helps with the problems on non-Retina displays.

After a few days with this new font set, I've found that for almost everything it is a much better look and very much easier to read. But in some few areas the fonts get a little squirrely. For instance in system preferences -->users & groups, if you want to make a change and click the lock, it prompts for a password, but the font is just garbage. Fortunately the blank for the password is obvious. So it isn't a perfect font set, but it is more than good enough right now. -- Lloyd
