#62314 — Play old MID(I) files?

SubjectPlay old MID(I) files?
Message-ID<_tednegM9v5gMVfOnZ2dnUVZ_qCdnZ2d@earthlink.com>
Hello.

It looks like Apple removed MID(I) music file support to play back in
its newer software versions like Mac OS X 10.8.5's iTunes and QuickTime
Player. Even the latest VideoLAN Client Media Player can't play them. Is
there a good free software that can and use SoundFont files?

Thank you in advance. :)

midi files play just fine in 10.8.5 in either quicktime player 7 or x.

soundfont files are non-standard and need their own player.

With newer versions of the OS, you can use QuickTime Player 7. It's free:

Why quote something so demonstrably false? Horses hardly engage in the
pursuit of ideas, they don't behave like ants. Why should humans?

And, bbtw, why the "--" before the "Mortimer"?

Isn't double (dashe/hyphen)s the part for showing the source for the quote?

I think "men" are implied, instead of horses, by the phrase "instead of
men". Nevertheless "ants" are a metaphor, because no matter what
humans pursue or what ideas they adopt or reject they can never be
anything remotely like an ant.

>> Why should humans?

Well technically we do behave like ants in that we eat, breath,
excrete, etc.  So do horses.  That's the curious thing about metaphors;
they are invariably employed to underscore what specific thing but
their intent can be readily confused or destroyed by changing the topic
to things wholly unrelated to its intended meaning.

A double-hypen when used for an interjection in a sentence--people
always use them wrong--shouldn't have spaces. I think using them for
attribution has many different possibilities as indicated here:

I am using the lowest ASCII method so text readers can see it too.
Looking at that web page showed some weird symbols, but I don't think
they are ASCII.

Well, it is slightly confusing in usenet when you already have used it
in the block, it makes some people think you don't quite know what you
are doing.

But, perhaps I am too jumpy on this sort of thing, so many usenet
people being quite ignorant on it all. You are probably not. However,
I make an aesthetic point too, it looks bad because of the repeating
double (aided by an unconscious doubt about it being meant to be
double disappeared on reply.

Your first double dash makes a good program disappear everything after
the first double and return. But, because I have a brain that has seen
other parts of the universe that are not open to humans or ants or
horses, it is possible to make a thing *double disappear*. Now your
quote of what Mortimer said will disappear once. But one slight slip
of your hand (hitting Return) would make the "Mortimer" disappear
*twice*. This would be a very dangerous thing to do. In my experience,
under the right (or maybe this should be the wrong) conditions, a
larger part of the universe can disappear along with it.

You may laugh or think I am on drugs or drunk but I am not. We must
all take very seriously the concept of a Double Disappearance.
Remember, Christ made a "Second Appearance" (not to be confused with
the promise of a Second Coming. He appeared after being born and then
again after he died). What people forget is that He also made a
spectacular Second Disappearance. He has never been seen again after
his second appearance and there is doubt that He can make a third
appearance. I don't think the physics of the world will allow a third
appearance, a double disappearance is ... well... it is so emphatic.

Hmm. I know having space after the two (dashe/hyphen)s would be for
signatures which I have.

I know p implies p. If -p, then you cannot know p.

It's "-- \n"

That's only true, only at the beginning of a line. Anywhere else, it
bears no particular significance. --

Entirely correct.

Which dash character you use for quote attributions is entirely a
stylistic choice, and is therefore completely up to you. And the fact
that doh-ruh-meh is bitching about it should be a huge clue to you that
it really is a trite complaint and meaningless debate. I would just pick
the one you like and don't bother wasting your time with dimwits.

Yes, otherwise it does not act to do the job of signalling to
newsreaders not to include it and below in replies. As for no
particular significance, perhaps it is more accurately to be described
as intending different particular significances. As for whether these
are good uses or not, let's leave this now...
