Your response to being given a link to CrossOver was: "I've looked into
that; you have to buy Bridge Master 2000 in order to do that." That's a
strange statement to make considering you need to buy Bridge Master 2000
in order to run it in *any* of the solutions being discussed: CrossOver,
VirtualBox, VMware Fusion, and Parallels Desktop.

(As has already been stated, for VirtualBox, VMware Fusion, and
Parallels Desktop, you must also of course buy Wwindows if you don't
already own a copy. The major benefit of CrossOver is you don't need to
buy Windows - at the expense of compatibility.)

What part of "You don't have to buy it" don't you understand?

He asked if you had the installer.
You replied that you need to buy it.
He replied that you don't have to buy it, but you do need the installer.

If you already have the installer, you don't have to buy it.
If you pirate the installer, you don't have to buy it.
If a friend gifts the installer to you, you don't have to buy it.

The point is it doesn't matter *how* you get it, but you *do* need the
installer!

Seems quite simple to me!

And you can't legally get the installer if you don't buy it. the
installer is not a separate product from the application. My saying
that I need to buy it means that I don't have it, and not having it
means that I don't have the installer.

But you said it as if it was a PARTICULAR requirement to getting it
running on Crossover:

<quoting you>

I've looked into that; you have to buy Bridge Master 2000 in order to
do that.
</end quote>

You SINGLED OUT Crossover as if this was something that would be
necessary only if you used that method.

It appears that you have the same comprehension problem that Baker has.

You pointed out Crossover as if following the steps on that web page
was all that was needed. I pointed out that wasn't the case, because I
would still need to have the application.

YOU singled out CrossOver, so don't go blaming me for your stupidity.

No.

I didn't assume that anyone could install software they didn't have
REGARDLESS of the method.

I simply showed you that Bridge Master 2000 was an application that
would install with CrossOver.

You then made a bizarre connection between that post and the need to do
something that you would need to do for ANY method under discussion.

I would have thought that the idea that you have to purchase commercial
software in order to be able to install it would be common sense. What
I'm trying to understand is why you bothered mentioning it as if it was
some sort of surprise for you.

The point is that Baker referred to that URL as if it contained all the
information needed and that I didn't need to have bought the
application.

And when I said that I'd need to buy the application, he kept insisting
that all I needed was the installer, as if it were something separate
from the application, and that if I could get a copy of the installer I
wouldn't need to buy the application.

I would have thought that would be obvious to him and to you.

Yes: it contained all the INFORMATION you needed.

Why would you mention the need for something that was universal across
ALL the methods, Michelle.

Of COURSE you need to have the software.

What he actually said was:

---
Crossover: its not very expensive, it doesn't require a Windows license

VirtualBox from Oracle: a free virtual machine, but you'll need more
resources and a Windows license.

VMWare Fusion or Parallels: same need for resources and Windows license
as VB, but you'll also pay for the VM software; I don't have an opinion
currently on which is better

Boot Camp: no additional cost for a VM or emulator, but the
inconvenience of having to leave your Mac OS X environment completely
just to run one program.

And...

---

And your response was:

"I've looked into that; you have to buy Bridge Master 2000 in order to
do that."

How could you possibly read that and end up inferring he meant you would
not have to purchase the application is a mystery to me!

> And when I said that I'd need to buy the application, he kept insisting
> that all I needed was the installer, as if it were something separate

No, after you objected saying you'd have to buy Bridge Master 2000, he
simply indicated that since purchasing is a separate activity from
installing, you don't necessarily have to purchase it, but at the very
least you do need the installer (regardless of how you obtained the
installer). You do realize there are ways of obtaining installers that
don't necessarily involve *you* making a *purchase* right? That's all he
said! It's pretty clear to me. Why is it so hard for you to accept?

> I would have thought that would be obvious to him and to you.

I'm just about done with this part of this thread, as the usefulness is

It doesn't have to say it; if you don't have the application to be
installed, you can't install it. The only legal way for me to have the
application is for me to purchase it.

What is so hard to understand about that?
