Part of the problem is the over-bloating of applications these days.

My beige G3 PowerMac is used as a business and leisure computer and
only has 126GB of hard drive storage (over two drives) ... and still
has 62GB free space left. :-)

I've got about 37Gb free space. I twiddle with Linux and Win7
occasionally so I have Parallels on the SSD, but the VMs are on an SD
card. Little slow loading but that's of no concern.

How many 4K preference files will it take to use up 1% of the SSD?

1.28 gigabytes) / (4 kilobits) = 335 545 files

I used to use a free app called Onyx to do various tidying up chores. I
don't think I've run it since Lion or possibly Snow Leopard (and on a
prior machine).

When I remove an app I use "AppCleaner" (also free), it makes an extra
effort to locate all files associated with an app and deletes them. In
one case it was effective to remove an app before re-installing it -
just deleting it with Finder was ineffective - the re-installed app
would not run.

A fellow who runs a PC repair shop had a very buggy, slow MacBook (early
intel version). He was getting nowhere with it. I looked at it and the
first thing I spotted was MacKeeper. I suggested he remove that,
install Onyx and AppCleaner and go to town on the machine. Next time I
was by he said that made a huge difference.

No, he reposted to CSMA primarily to start a trolling thread. That's
all he does.

Ah, good to know. I don't visit CSMA. I'll go ahead and add dick wad to
the kill file. Thanks.

This is the original group as far as I can tell. Look at the OP.

Look who the post came from. Puffin Killer is a nym for zara and has
used a very large number of other nyms. His MO is to make some stupid
statement, then resort to insults when challenged. He is a troll, pure
and simple. Ignore him, or if you want to engage with him, do it in the
proper group, CSMA.
