I used to use a CLI based reader which had trouble there. Safari was quite good at stripping out the line endings, but of course still had trouble with ">" in quoted text. >> complain to the author to fix it or use non-broken software. > > It's unlikely to ever be fixed in a terminal-based newsreader, but I > like tin well enough to put up with it. slrn does a good job here. Where the original post has broken the line *and* doesn't have "<" ">" you still need copy and paste for everything after line 1. -- Paul Sture The final step of #heartbleed recovery is to call your mother, and advise her to change her maiden name -- @gojomo

The nice thing about slrn here is that it puts what it thinks is the URL on the bottom line and you can edit it before hitting return. Thus for the above URLs it was simply a matter of using copy and paste to append the second line to the display then hitting return. -- Paul Sture The final step of #heartbleed recovery is to call your mother, and advise her to change her maiden name -- @gojomo

I also notice that right-clicking a URL in slrn in Terminal and choosing Open URL fails in the same way. Also the highlighted URL omits the later portion of the URL (the missing piece). -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Yes. It's not usually very long, and chances are good they have the 10.9 installer already on the machine, so you just copy it to your USB thumb drive. -- Oh look, good intentions!

Or one could do what I used to do when I had a large file to download over dialup - start the download just before going to bed and let it run overnight. -- D.F. You're suppoosed to be a hipster who downloads Mavericks at high speed wi-fi while sipping expensive coffee at a Starbucks :-) Or be a northern californian who starts the download and then goes surfing so don't care how long the dowload takes :-)

Besides, Starbucks' wi-fi is too overcrowded with all those Windoze users constantly downloading the needed daily "extra urgent must-have" patches and anti-malware updates that keep their computer just about hobbling along almost usably.
