Easy to do in Mail as well.

E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter.
I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead.

Too much farting around. I want to pop up the message window and just
space bar through them like I could in MT-NW. It strikes me as odd when
software intended for reading messages is not designed to do that quickly
and efficiently from the keyboard... if you read a couple hundred
messages a day, reaching for the mouse or trackpad, postioning the
cursor, double-clicking, etc., is a nuisance and a time waster. One of
the reasons I went with slrn for Usenet is that it avoids the silliness
that often afflicts GUI apps (on the other hand, writing or responding to
a post isn't as efficient depending on the editor one chooses). Gnus
within Emacs is a decent compromise between GUI and keyboard based apps,
although having to learn the arcane keybindings is inconvenient.

Ain't nothing perfect...

Space bar works in TB but I use bettertouchtool and just swipe left/right.

I am the opposite I like to keep My hand on the mouse.

Definitely not here.

Are you using Mac OS X 10.9.1 with Mail 7.1?

Is your Mail configured to use classic layout (in Mail Preferences >
Viewing)?
