As much as I dislike microsoft, this one isn't actually their fault. It's a bios setting in any ibm pc or compatible. It can be turned off. Someone was throwing them away years ago and I stashed them away instead.) The Mac, however, just didn't excite me after I went the the local Apple dealer and played with one in '84. It was cute, but very limited, and it wasn't anything I needed. It was also expensive. Didn't even Jobs later complain that it was priced too high? He blamed Sculley for it, but I'm sure that Sculley loomed rather large in Job's memories, and he probably blamed all kinds of stuff on him. > >> I was never a fan. Apple doesn't actually innovate very much, if at all, so maybe it doesn't matter that much anyway. Computer hardware and software has been constantly evolving for a long time now. Most things build on prior work, so even things that contain new ideas also contain a lot of old ones. Did Jobs ever give credit to all the people whose work his company built on when he was onstage at Macworld or wherever? I've never had much problem getting the OSs I use to work. It's nice that Apple has been there for you, holding your hand, but I don't really want or need that. Malware is a problem with every platform. Some are worse than others, but nothing is immune to it. Software drivers? I don't do much with those. Sometimes on servers I have to install drivers for things like FC cards, but not always. > If you unplugged the keyboard from a DOS PC and then started it up, it > would complain with an error message along the lines of "No keyboard > found. Hit any key to continue" ... that fact alone is enough to tell > you Microsloth produced utter crap from day one (and even back then > they didn't actually do anything themselves, but bought it off someone > else). That error message would actually be from the BIOS, and MS didn't produce that. IBM created the system ROMs originally. What did the early Macs do when they don't have a keyboard plugged in? Do they just boot anyway? Do they warn you that there's a problem? I used to have a 512, but got rid of it a long time ago when the power supply for the monitor started to act up. So I can't check the behavior. I don't think you're actually a very effective troll or Macvocate. Too much of what you said is incorrect, and you just don't have the depth of knowledge needed to discuss the computer industry or its history. BTW, I'm not sure why you mentioned Microsoft so much. All of my home computers run Linux or Unix, and I'm a Unix admin. I work with Microsoft software when I have to, but it's certainly not the main toolkit I reach for when I have tasks to do at work or at home.

Sculley was, at least somewhat, in favour of lowering the Mac price. It was Gasse who "insisted that the Mac was so technically superior to anything else that it didn't need to have a huge share of the market. The machine would always sell for a premium price and Apple would always have a comfortable market position". > > > > > >> I was never a fan. It's nice > that Apple has been there for you, holding your hand, but I don't really > want or need that. Just look at the installation instructions that come with any printer. The Windoze instructions are usually multiple pages, while the Mac instructions barely fill one page. It's not about "hand holding". It's about actually being able to use the computer to do what you want, rather than spending hours (or many dollars on tech support) before you can use it ... and only then to have it crash again. > Malware is a problem with every platform. Macs were (and still are) often used as "headless servers" which don't need a keyboard continually plugged in.

This is bullshit. Just a few weeks ago a large botnet consisting of (exclusivly) OSX machines was found And read this: http://www.howtogeek.com/210589/mac-os-x-isn%E2%80%99t-safe-anymore-the-crapware-malware-epidemic-has-begun/ > Such things are > claimed to have been found by greedy morons trying to sell anti-malware > software to the naive. Unfortunately, no. This isn't the case. OSX is a unix and for that reason has some extra barriers against malware, just like linux has. But apple also has the tendency to be even worse in upgrading systemsoftware containing bugs compared to MS. They let bugs, even quite dangerous ones, remain in the system for much too long time > > Yes, they boot without a silly (non)error message. Macs were (and still > are) often used as "headless servers" which don't need a keyboard > continually plugged in. Whoever uses Macs as servers now clearly shows that he is lacking several marbles. It is a worse server than even windows. And windows is bad enough

You were talking about early PCs running DOS, and now you're talking about Macs as servers, which means much newer Macs. It also seems that you're saying that a headless Mac used as a server _does_ need a keyboard, just not all the time. That's kind of limiting. I guess you could always buy a KVM for them that allows remote access. Most of those that I've seen run Linux. Why would you want to use a Mac as a server these days? Even Apple gave up on that idea. There's no way that it would be cost-effective.

Just ask Microsoft. -- Proof techniques #1: Proof by Induction. This technique is used on equations with "n" in them. Induction techniques are very popular, even the military used them. SAMPLE: Proof of induction without proof of induction. We know it's true for n equal to 1. Now assume that it's true for every natural number less than n. N is arbitrary, so we can take n as large as we want. If n is sufficiently large, the case of n+1 is trivially equivalent, so the only important n are n less than n. We can take n = n (from above), so it's true for n+1 because it's just about n. QED. (QED translates from the Latin as "So what?")
