I can't find VPN in Applications or Utilities.
Hit the web for help, and I see that other people are finding it but
complaining that it doesn't work.
I have an employer-issued Win 7 laptop, but I can't turn on WiFi--the
button is toggling Bluetooth instead of WiFi!
I can RDP to a Win XP VM at work, but that VM seems to have gone belly-up
It's always something.
Anyway, any advice on VPN ?

I work remotely from home and am almost constantly connected to my employer's internal network through a VPN connection to my home. It works just fine in 10.9. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR

Ah, thanks. I thought I had seen something else before. Did some
earlier version have a setup assistant in Utilities?

Earlier versions of OS X had limited VPN support so there was usually a 3rd party app that handled it. "CiscoVPN Client" was popular and also notorious for causing kernel panics. Juniper Networks has "Network Connect" that seems to work well if you have the right version for your OS.

I never acquired a third-party client. But I have a vague (and possibly wrong) memory of seeing a set-up tool for it in Applications or in Utilities in a recent OS version. -- Wes Groleau Can we afford to be relevant? http://www.cetesol.org/stevick.html

I never fathomed out how to use it though. first you configure it for an ipsec vpn, which can be a bit confusing if you aren't familiar with setting up ipsec. once it's set up, you just click a button to connect to the remote network. it works quite well. apple's built invpn support is limited, thus the need for third party ipsec clients such as ipsecuritas.
