It may be that MenuMeters has some conflicts with Mavericks. I had some
really odd problems with Mail until I removed MenuMeters. I'm not sure,
but I think it might have been fighting with the Bluetooth menu item. I
turned off the Bluetooth menu, re-installed MenuMeters, and haven't seen
a recurrence of the problems.

A user on the Apple discussion groups has been having problems with Mail
and iMovie. Among the many third-party items he has running is
MenuMeters.

Hmm. The menu cracker (allows one to position items in the menu bar)
should not cause this kind of problem. The MenuMeters author answers
email - I'd try asking him about this.

He's also running McAfee - a much more likely suspect.

Anyway, all this sounds like, sadly, typical .0 release problems.

Yes, but if you read further down in the thread you'll see that he
deleted McAfee but still has the problems.

Well, I certainly believe it is MenuMeters. I've tried it a couple of
times and have always found that my system (especially Finder and
iTunes) was much less well behaved with it installed. YMMV.

It _wasn't_ MenuMeters -- or TrashTimer or anything else that I could
figure out. As with the guy on the Apple boards, my problem came back
after a little while. For now, I've given up on Mail and have gone back
to PowerMail for my POP accounts and webmail for the others.

Or worse. For me, Apple's Mail is bombing like a beta.

Mail has been the only real problem I've had with Mavericks, but it has
been a big one. Macworld had an article yesterday about ditching Mail,
and Airmail is now the top paid title (by unit sales) on the Mac App
Store.

No issues with MenuMeters here - other than a lack of obvious
correlation between it's memory used/free and that of Activity Monitor.

And reading the issues in the link you added - I also have the recent i7
iMac and none of the issues claimed.

I did have a few minor bumps on installing Mavericks with some apps
(reported in this NG) but worked them off one by one.

I've found iStat Menus to be not only more stable, but also more fully
featured.

And more intrusive. I got it with some bundle some time ago and gave it
a try. I went back to menu meters because the interface of iStat Menus
was horrible and there was a "new and improved" version almost
constantly to sell you some crap or other.
Menu Meters just works and works and works... (at least over here. And
still working under Mavericks without problems so far)

To each, his own.

Personally, I find iStat Menus interfaces to be much more refined with
many more features. It also looks better and is more stable as well.

> and there was a "new and improved" version almost

The fact that Menu Meters is rarely updated doesn't magically mean
that all iState Menus updates are sales ploys. I haven't spent a cent on
iStat Menus since my initial purchase, and the author hasn;t asked me
for any more money either. I've seen a slew of great new features added
in subsequent updates. Menu Meters in comparison is largely stagnant. You
may see that as a good thing. Not me.

> Menu Meters just works and works and works... (at least over here. And

Except when it doesn;t work correctly. I've used both for long
durations, and Menu Meters is unquestionably the more buggy of the two.

I´m curious: what bugs did you encounter?

The most memorable were graphics issues, and I recall I had to trash the
prefs once or twice to resolve some minor glitch.
