Y’know what’s really perplexing:Honda and Toyota back in the 80’s both had cars that got that kind of Mileage without being hybrids. And they could do that today.. without the weight of the batteries and electric motors.. just a gasoline engine. But they don’t because people would rather buy the hybrid.. :-/ I don’t care one way or the other as long as I pay less for gas. -- "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine." - Abraham Lincoln

Yes, super-lightweight cars, with only two seats and no luggages space, underpowered engines (sometimes only three cylinders), and very sparse in the way of options. Oh, and they polluted a hell of a lot more than today's conventional-engine cars.

Well.... everybody "knows" that there were carburetors back then that could get 400 MPG but the oil companies bought the patents to them to keep them off the market. This way they could sell more oil. (Stop me if you've heard that urban myth before.) -- We know Photoshop is sold for around $700.00. By cost comparison Photoshop should be 70,000 times better than GIMP, which it clearly is not. As anyone can see GIMP is the clear winner. Business classes for me you say! I don't need them, my wife has been operating a private business for about 20 years now. I do all the financial side of it and up to par on those type of things. If you work with images and Photoshop helps you be more efficient and do your work better then you have to judge if that difference is worth the difference in price, if you can afford that difference, etc. As it is, GIMP is a great product and it is free - but it is not in the same class as Photoshop. For me it makes Photoshop worth it - but for others this might not be the case. Why does anyone imagine that electric cars will ever do anything? Certainly reducing your consumption by not being heavy footed helps, and by anticipating the need in the few moments to slow down one can effect that just by removing the foot from the pedal and letting the car slow down by itself. -- "Please stop telling us what you feel. I'm aware and it's something that I already do. I shouldn't be getting the incredible MPG rate I get from my Jeep Patriot I know the car very well and know how to get the most out of it. As it is, I get about 460km from a tank which holds about 45 litres which is slightly better than 10l/100km. -- Slimer Encrypt. Unlike a battery. Diesel is obviously excellent for good mileage but it pollutes way more than conventional gas does which is why it has been phased out (as far as I know). For this reason modern diesel cars have filters in the exhaust. And because of this, diesel cars should not be used for short distances only, otherwise those filters could clog. The particles, if not filtered, can cause lung problems because they are small enough to get deep into the lungs > Still, biodiesel sounds interesting though I am not sure I want cities > smelling like French fries. :) > biodiesel does not mean that it works and smells differently, just that the source of the diesel isn't crude oil That smell you mention is present if you run the diesel engine on vegetable oil directly (several diesel engines can do that)
