This should get the "The only obligation of a corporation is to make a

upset.

I have deep admiration for Apple's core principles, and thank goodness
they are strongly valued by the CEO. I like this guy. : )

If they weren't, I doubt that he would remain CEO for long. I like
him, too.

Most large corporations have some "goodwill" endeavours to help with
their image which is often damaged by terrible big business practices.
Apple's "green" endeavours compensate for the bad image Apple gets for
building its iToys in China with underpaid and overworked labour.

I am neutral on Cook. he seems to be a good manager for the company. But
he doesn't have the vision and leadership of Jobs. It is unclear to me
(or probably to everyone) if Cook is good when it comes to negotiating
with the old Hollywood establishement to move entertainment to the
digital age.

The real answer Cook would provide, if the "political correctness" were
turned off is that Apple needs to have such endeavours because Apple's
whole sale strategy is based on a great image which commands higher
markup/premium prices.

So cultivating a good image is an integral part of Apple's strategy, so
those "green" initiaties are part of doing business for a company such
as Apple.

From what I've read, Apple actually does more than any other similar
company to reduce underpaid and overworked labor. It's well reported
that Apple's practice of sending employees to factories in China on a
regular basis to inspect their operations and improve them is something
virtually none of their competitors were doing in the beginning. And
even still today, some don't, and others only do half-heartedly. I've
come to expect you to ignore that and shed this in the worst possible
light you can muster. Your trolling is transparent.

And you'd certainly know that, with your astounding intimate knowledge
of everything he does inside Apple's secretive halls. As if...

No surprise there. Just about everything about Apple is "unclear" and
"uncertain" to you. You must make that statement every day of your life
(often right here on Usenet).

As always, your trollish attempt to shed all things Apple in a bad light
are completely transparent. According to your take, it couldn't possibly
be that Apple's employees actually care about these things; no, you'd
rather believe that they do it all for purely selfish reasons. Troll
away though. We see right through you.

Apple requires this underpaid and overworked labour to remain
competitive. So its PR steps are not to end it or fix it, it is only to
give the appearance of doing something about it.

Apple needs to be seen taking action because the abuses and problems are
associated with the Apple brand. One rarely hears about abuses at the
same companies such as Foxcon when making HP products even though I am
quite sure they happen too.

Also, where Apple is a bit different is that it has extremely high
demands for quality and production. And this has resulted in some
problems such as the Alumunium body plant that exploded due to too much
aluminium dust in the air. When you push a plant's limits for both
complexity of process and for production quantity, you elevate risks of
problems.

A company that makes plastic enlosures doesn't need fancy single piece
brushed aluminium enclosures for laptops/phones so they don't experience
the problems Apple had.

> come to expect you to ignore that and shed this in the worst possible

Unless you work in Tim Cook's office, you know as much as I do about
him. Sorry to insult you, but your speculation has as much value as mine.

Apple is very secretive. (whether justified of not is not the question).
So pundits have to speculate based on small hints that Apple allows to
escape. And that goes for the Wall Street Casino Analysts too.

And your attempts to portray Apple as a nice friendly sensitive company
are naive. AAPL is a corporation, and it has financial imperatives and
PR imperatives. Believing that its PR initiatives are "benevolent" is
quite naive. It is all about corporate image to increase sales, brand
image etc. It is very calculated business decision.

Apple employees have no control or say on those PR exercises.
Marketing/PR department does. And it likely reports directly to Cook.

Your assertion doesn't match up with the fact that Apple does more than
their competitors. You'll need to do more than just spout hot air for me
to believe what you are saying.

I tolerate it and call it what it is: trolling.

I'm not the one speculating. You are. And so far, you haven't given any
proof that your speculation is based on reality.

You aren't a pundit - just some dude on the net spouting hot air.

Nope, but unlike you, I am able to imagine that the people working for
Apple actually do care about certain principles.

As if you would know. You're full of hot air, and you are trolling. You
are transparent.

I agree that Apple does more than its competitors and said so in my
message. But that does not mean that Apple is out to fix the problem of
low wages and hard working conditions because Apple needs those (just
like its competitors do) to compete.

No, it doesn't, and neither do they.

Again, Apple's doing more than their competitors, and you haven't yet
proven that you have any insider knowledge of Apple's actual intentions
or aspirations. You're just trolling.

There is NO way that Apple can tell Foxconn, the world's LARGEST electronics
contract manufacturer just HOW to run their business. They can only ask that
change policies. FYI: Not only do they produce for Apple, they produce for
Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and Amazon.

So get off your high horse about Apple supporting unfair labor practices of
a Communist country which is coming to find that they like the benefits of
Capitalism just fine. Any change will have to come from WITHIN, much like it
did here in the USA round the end of the nineteenth century, with the
WORKERS themselves initiating the change.

Although FOXCON's factories are in mainland China (which we used to
call "Red China"), the company itself is Taiwanese (which we used to
call "China").

BTW, who knows what the source material is for my parenthetical

Wait a couple more weeks and you can read the new book "Haunted Empire,
Apple After Steve Jobs" being published on 18 March that evidently
looks at Tim Cook's management style. The Wall Street Journal published
an excerpt from the book on Friday
