Unfortunately not for much longer. The desert is slowly covering up the
sets they used for Star Wars, and short of spend bazillions of dollars
trying to move and block the moving dunes, there's no way to stop it
:-(

There's at least four Darth Vaders, and that's in the movies alone:
- David Prowse (the actor who played the role in
Original Trilogy)
- Sebastian Shaw (in the scene where the mask was
removed in Return of the Jedi)
- James Earl Jones (voice in all the movies)
- Hayden Christiansen (who became Vader in
Revenge of the Sith)

Yep, Han Solo died when he crashed the Millennium Falcon on Earth in a
North American forest. Chewbacca survived the crash and for many years
roamed the forest in mourning, which the Native Americans called
Sasquatch / Bigfoot. Plus, many years later Indianna Jones found the
wreckage of the Falcon. :-)

And once fitted with the black suit with helmet, doesn't he voice Darth ? Or is it done by J E Jones ?

Hayden Christensen wore the black suit at the end of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, but James Earl Jones provided the voice once the mask was in place.

We were not talking about Carrie Fisher, we were talking about Princess
Leia.

Slave Leia, sure. Cinnamon-bun eared Leia?
Well, yeah, her too.

I think we've all identified the dork.

AFFORD??? First worry about *FINDING* some - *IF* you manage that, start worrying about affording it! .38 special (+P or not) is practically mythical around here. .22lr is just as bad. You can find 12 gauge skeet loads by the crate, but good luck finding buckshot or slugs. The only stuff that seems to be plentiful are oddball stuff that only "collector" type folks would be interested in - Goofy oversized ultra-super-mega-magnums that nobody in his right mind is going to use anywhere but on an african elephant hunt, and "mouse-gun" loads are everywhere, but simple .308, .30-06, .22lr, .38 special, .357 and .44 mag - All of those are damn near impossible to find locally, and if you do find somebody that has some on the shelf, it's "one box per customer per day" and the price is jacked beyond ridiculous. -- Security provided by Mssrs Smith and/or Wesson. I was in Wal*Merde the other day and there was plenty of classic rifle
rounds. Nothing for handguns (other than .22/LR) of course here in
heavily restricted handgun Canada.
At the local hunting place, they have tons of everything.
(No idea on prices - I don't follow it all that much anymore).

"+P" designates overpressure ammunition load. That is "overpressure" relative to the standard load range for a particular ammunition. The result is a round with a higher muzzle velocity and energy. In the case of a .38 Special compare with a .357 Magnum, both have a caliber of .357'' (.38 is misleading). However, the Magnum has a slightly longer cartridge case and can therefore take a heavier powder load than the standard .38 Special. So a typical 38 Special has a typical standard pressure load of about 17,000 psi, the (+P) is about 10% higher. This means that a more powerful load can be fired in a firearm not designed for magnum loads. Usually (+P) ammo is not advised for use in older pistols or revolvers not certified for (+P) ammo. For example, pre-WWII M1911 .45 ACP and early 38 Specials should not have (+P) ammo fired in them as they have not been proofed for those higher pressures and catastrophic failures have been known to happen. Some, but not all (+P) ammo is restricted to Law Enforcement sales, but gun shows have made many of those restrictions redundant. Firing (+P) ammo in most Magnum revolvers designed to take higher pressures, and many of the newer (but not all) pistol/revolver designs can deal with the extra punch. Always check the specifications. The most drastic use of (+P) can be found in the .45 Colt Long, made famous in the Colt 1875 SAA "Peacemaker". That cartridge case is so large it allows for an overpressure load increase of 96% going from a standard pressure of 14,000 psi to 27,500 psi. Revolvers not designed for those pressures have had cylinder failures. So, you have to be careful where you use (+P) ammo. -- Regards, Savageduck

It's a higher pressure, therefore higher velocity (in a long enough barrel) loading of .38 special. Not every .38 special ought to be shooting it. Some of the older guns quite literally go kaboom on it, and feeding it to a snubby is a waste unless what you're looking for is that cool hollywood muzzle flash. Two local smiths tell me I'm safe using it as carry ammo in my older-than-me S&W Model 15 (which I do - Hornady critical defense in +P) but for range time, I ought to stick to "plain" if I want the gun to stay functional. I tend to agree with them. Why beat it up? Never mind the usually higher price of +P ammo versus "plain". For a .357 mag shooter, even the .38 special +P+ (Even higher pressure/velocity than +P) is a no-issues load. It can cheerfully eat 'em all day long - or as long as whoever is pulling the trigger feels like throwing away the extra $$. -- Security provided by Mssrs Smith and/or Wesson. Hell, if you are looking for a large no-conceal > revolver get the six inch barrel. Better long-range target practice. What do you call long range with a pistol, or long range target practice? Olympic Free Pistol is shot at 50 meters. When it comes to defensive and/or combat shooting ranges vary from contact to about 25 yards at most, usually in the 10 foot to 15 yard range. For most defense/combat handguns in the higher calibers, a 4''-5'' barrel with a 5'' to 6'' sight radius is more than good enough. This makes the weapon a little easier to handle and is actually better in a stress situation. A long barrel hand gun with a long sight radius (8''-12''), might be inherently more accurate, but it is less forgiving, magnifying the smallest errors. It takes a lot of practice and training to wring the best out of a long sight radius target weapon. When I was shooting competition I would fire about 10,000 rounds a year, and that was not under combat stress. > BTW: With the price of ammo these days, who can afford much, LOL!?! Agreed, even with reloading it is not as affordable as it once was. When I did reload I was only reloading 38 SP for target shooting. Those were fed into my S&W model 52. Bricks of .22 LR can still be had at reasonable prices. I still buy a fair amount of .38 SP mid-range, and .40 S&W 165 gr. FMJ and .45 ACP 230 gr. FMJ, for practice, usually in the Winchester 100 round value packs around $30 for the .40 S&W, and $38 for the .45 ACP. 38SP reloads run about $24 for a 100. Carry rounds are a different matter. 50 Federal Premium (Law Enforcement) Tactical .45 (+P) 185 gr. JHP runs me about $28, and a similar price for .40 S&W 155 gr JHP. -- Regards, Savageduck

Hey, Duck, since you are mentioning range and such, have you ever thought

Yep, I used to reload shotgun shells, not because of the expense, but a
friend did so and taught it to me. Don't have the equipment anymore but I
seem to recall having a bunch of empty 12ga cartridges around here
somewhere.
