I takes according to ability, and pays according to need. It is
collectivism at its finest.

Capitalism has had collective interest institutions that support
capitalism from long before Morelly//Marxist dogma. Forms of insurance
existed thousands of years ago in the form of monarchy protection
rackets to shipping loan/insurance contracts. It's never stopped.

Banks. Trading houses/associations. Harbours/docks. Insurance.
Granaries, mills. Roads. Barn raising. Marriage.

All collective institutions with 100's -1000's years of
economic/capitalist "good".

You omitted corporations; one of the purest forms of collectivism.

Insurance is a fascist construct. It provides another layer of
corporate control of individual's lives, a set of rules enforced by
threatened or actual denial of required coverage.

FYI, I don't know where YOU live, but in most states in the USA, one is
REQUIRED by LAW to have automobile insurance.

If the POTUS and Nancy "we have to pass it to see what's in it" Pelosi, have
their way, ObamaCare will soon be the same as that. It will take a Supreme
Court ruling to overturn a mandatory government law that makes citizens
criminal for not having health insurance.

Now tell me, with a straight face, that that isn't Socialist?

Only liability insurance; there's no legal requirement to have collision or
comprehensive automobile insurance. (However, if there's an outstanding
loan on the car, the lender will require you to have collision and
comprehensive insurance.)

*Sigh* I was making both a joke and a point. That the concepts of shared
resources and shared risks aren't just a socialist concept. 100%
capitalism and free markets are just as unworkable as 100% socialism. A
smart society borrows from the best of all societies. Mandatory auto
insurance makes insurance cheaper for all, and protects us from
"judgement proof" members of society.

So? As a society we already pay for the uninsured, since those with no
ability to pay can't be turned away from life-saving emergency treatment,
arguably some of the most expensive treatments. We all pay for that in
increased costs.

Presumably you aren't stupid enough not to carry automotive or health
insurance, so why do you care if others are required to as well for the
good of all of society? People don't always do the right thing on their
own.

> Now tell me, with a straight face, that that isn't Socialist?

It is to a degree. Those crazy socialists like the Canadians and the UK
offer baseline medical health care to all citizens. It's frankly
embarrassing, with the riches this country has been blessed with, that we
don't.

A niche group far outnumbered by the fundamentalists the mainstream
Republicans pander to.

Basic human rights are not a handout or a special favor, and need to be
protected. The civil rights movement of the 60s proved that the majority
isn't always right, (although they're often Right!)

Wrong.

Very much wrong. Much of the legal battles to legalize same-sex marriage
have been initiated by gay Republicans.

Oh, and the gay Democrats don't demand legislated respect, we demand
equality under the law, just like gay Republicans do.

Wrong again.
