And even with the dongle, I'm still eliminating a cable.

I wish they had gone back on less in Yosemite... :-) If you have a light background, the desktop icon font is a lot harder to read than in Mavericks. The menu font switch to Helvetica Neue is also a little harder to read than Lucida Grande. I absolutely hate the new "stoplight" gadgets in the upper left corner of the windows now. I've gone into fullscreen by mistake about a dozen times now. The smaller Apple logo in the upper left corner makes Classic Menu display itself a little screwier. (But I think I can edit the resource files in the app to get that to work better.) I won't even comment on performance... since that's to be expected. Quicklook, at least, appears to work much faster now. -- Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty... and the pig LIKES it.

I can clear some of that up. OK... by the numbers. I never said I CLICKED the green stoplight by mistake. (Okay... maybe once, or twice.) What I'm referring to is how the green light FUNCTIONS now. It no longer makes the window LARGER - it toggles FULLSCREEN. It didn't used to do that. Classic Menu is a small app that returns the hierarchical Apple menu, a la OS9. (It replaces the current Apple logo in the menubar with it's own colored apple.) Now that Yosemite has made that apple logo a tad smaller, it no longer matches Classic Menu's apple, and it's appearance is jumbled. (That I can fix by editing the mask resource within the app itself. Minor annoyance.) As far as Yosemite being designed for Retina Displays... if that's true, it's a pretty stupid move. It's Microsoft Zune stupid. I work in Pre-Press at at Printing company. We use many Macs... none of which are Retinas. Catering to the minority of users at the expense of the majority of users is just plain dumb. That's not a word I'm used to using when it comes to Apple. We have light grey (neutral) desktop backgrounds so as to not distract when color matching. Making the icons harder to read against light backgrounds does not help. Mavericks seems to look OK... what is the upside to changing something like that in Yosemite? All in all, I like the flatter look... it's just that some of the changes appear to be just for the sake of change. BRIGHT BLUE folders? Like I said before... we use neutral backgrounds because bright colors make it harder to color correct. Them folders are retina burners... It'll be the first system resource I'll edit. The Finder icon will be the second. -- It's 99% of politicians that give the rest a bad name

Perhaps one could fire up Xcode and edit the various NIB
(Nextstep Interface Builder) modules. That'd be a bit of
work - Safari has many of them.
I've done this in the past, but not lately, so I don't
know if it remains a viable option.
Resexcellence used to be a good source of info, but it
was taken down for a few years, and although it's back
up now, there's not much info for newer OS X versions.
