Yep, but they brought in authentic aliens from Blango and Zenu to play the roles ... mainly because they both agreed to be paid with a couple of barrels of Zengu Nuts and a few shiny beads. ;-)

Why is that a problem? Don't send anything over the internet that you would not be comfortable having your neighbours read. This isn't about email. Companies like Google and Facebook (say) want to know that user A12345X, identified because he's in Nfld Standard Time and uses Opera on a Mac G3 has visited LL Bean's website 431 times this year so that they can target him with adverts for wool shirts and baggy chinos. "Don't send anything over the internet that you would not be comfortable having your neighbours read." Seriously? That's so ingenuous as to border on the ridiculous. If you don't do anything wrong, nothing bad can ever happen to you. Tell that to Anne Frank. Even paranoid people have enemies. -- Where's the Vangelis music? Of course, anyone who's visited the LL Bean site 431 times is already desperate for wool shirts and baggy chinos. But that's not really what the tinfoil crowd is worried about. Their fear is that "A user we've uniquely identified as having posted this message on ihatejews.com also posted this other message on sarahpalinshot.com" (is that shot or 's hot at the end, I wonder?) and that the UN's secret police will round them up and put them into the secret prison that is in the hollow earth where they filmed the fake moon landing. -- http://2blog.kreme.com

It would be interesting to see what others have. As for me, running that command: $ tree -ifa /usr/share/fonts|wc -l The program 'tree' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install tree 0 $ sudo apt-get install tree $ tree -ifa /usr/share/fonts|wc -l 1156 So you have five times as many fonts as I do, which, not surprisingly, will make you even "more" unique, than I am (in that I could more easily lower my identifying bits than you can). > anything that is not properly encrypted > can be read by any admin running the system it's sent from, > the system it's sent to, or any system in between. Speaking of that "proper encryption", I'm wondering about the millions of web sites that don't have https encryption. For example, let's say I have a web forum account which requires a login and a password, yet, it's not https. What are our options, if we don't want to just hand our passwords to anyone snooping on that login process? 1. Would TOR on top of VPN hide the login credentials on the connection from the TOR exit node to the web forum? 2. Would a custom HTTPS Everywhere rule do it easier? Which would be more effective? The VPN-plus-TOR, or HTTPS-Everywhere plus a custom rule for that particular web site?

If a site being used for online banking, or any other financial transactions doesn't use https, find another site to use. For non financial messages, just be careful what you post. For confidential information, learn how to use pgp/gpg. I've been using it since 1993. > For example, let's say I have a web forum account > which requires a login and a password, yet, it's not https. Make sure each site has a different password. > What are our options, if we don't want to just hand our passwords > to anyone snooping on that login process? > 1. While TOR/VPN will prevent someone on your local network from getting the password, it will not stop someone on the same network as the site. > 2. Would a custom HTTPS Everywhere rule do it easier? If the website requires a login, and doesn't use https, I'd suggest using some other site, that provides the same info, but does use https. > Which would be more effective? The best solution is to never send info that you wouldn't share with your neighbours, unless it's properly encrypted with gpg (linux), or pgp (windows). While there are public key servers (a good thing), the key id exchange must be done in a secure manner. Regards, Dave Hodgins -- Change nomail.afraid.org to ody.ca to reply by email. While TOR/VPN will prevent someone on your local > network from getting the password, it will not stop someone on > the same network as the site. Do I understand this correctly? 1. I am on IP address 50.100.150.200, where I bring up the Tor Browser Bundle, and log into a Craigslist account as "user1/password1". Since I used Tor, my login name and password are encrypted up to the Tor exit node. However, after the Tor exit node, the login name and password are in the clear. So, the dilemma is how to hide the login/password from the Tor exit node to the Craigslist server. (The fact I'm using Tor, wouldn't be hidden from the ISP, for example.) 2. If I add a VPN server 200.150.100.50 to this mix, I'm not sure how that helps, except it does sort of hide the fact I'm using Tor from the ISP and anyone snooping between me at 50.100.150.200 and the VPN server at 200.150.100.50. The actual typed login/password would be, I guess, double encrypted, between me and the VPN server, and then only singly encrypted between the VPN server and the Tor exit node. I guess, what you're saying is, that, as before, the login/password is (still) in the clear between the Tor exit node and the Craigslist server. Is there ANY way to NOT have that login/password be in the clear from the last Tor exit node to the Craigslist server?
