It's never fun when people don't recognize the use of line from a movie
or ignore it.

Thing is that is what some of the decrypted messages actually said.

I once got a Red Ryder BB Gun for my birthday in the 1940s.

The only thing I'm sure to watch on Christmas day is the Doctor Who
Christmas special for that year.

Same here, although usually I manage to fit in my favorite holiday
movie (Bad Santa), though I didn't this year.

Until I dropped my VCR in favor of optical media, I also watched the
Laurel and Hardy version of March of the Wooden Soldiers. Maybe I
should buy it through iTunes.

If I'm alone, I read a book I've been saving for a treat 8-)

I remember Captain Midnight being sponsored by Ovaltine, not a cereal,
and the cost was no more than a quarter. I still have a couple of
decoders and one decoding book. I have been waiting for a new message
for a long time, but I am still ready.

You're right; my memory was faulty on that aspect.

One nice thing about Captain Midnight was that the women, on both
sides, were capable and intelligent, and not merely "damsels in
distress". In that respect, it was decades ahead of its time.
