Bridgemaster doesn't sound like it needs a lot of computational oomph, so it wouldn't matter which VM you use. That said, Parallels has edged out Fusion in speed tests over the last several years. Though VMWare claim a large speed increase in their latest version. Boot Camp is a PITA since, as you said, you boot into that OS and you're stuck with that to the exclusion of the other. I've never even considered using it. You could install WinXP - which you could more or less get away with w/o a legal license as MS don't care anymore - if you have the key. OTOH, it might not update to the latest service packs. Then Win 7 would be the best Win to load. -- I was born a 1%er - I'm just more equal than the rest.

Fine, but one day you may find other Win apps that you want as well. In that case, forego silliness like bootcamp and go straight to Fusion or Parallels with Windows 7. -- I was born a 1%er - I'm just more equal than the rest.

If you need a lot of speed, go Boot Camp. The next fastest choice is CrossOver, but there are compatibilities issues. Virtual machines such as Parallels, VMFusion or the free Oracle VirtualBox https://www.virtualbox.org/ impose more strain on your Mac so they are slower, and slow down your other apps, but compatibility is generaly excellent, and being able to run Mac and Windows applications with drag and drop or cut and paste between the two is a plus. -- Mitch Bujard Fonts for Zaner-Bloser and Dnealian worksheets http://www.SchoolFonts.com

Fusion imposes no perceptible, additional load on the system. Indeed, running OS X, WinXP, SUSE and Ubuntu (all at the same time), there is no perceptible lag on the system once each OS has finished loading. Parallels, if anything, should be even better per industry testing (slightly faster than Fusion). It is absolute insanity to run boot camp when parallel operation allows all the benefits you enumerate. Perhaps "gamers" would want that 'pure' system for absolute speed - but then they'd be just as well to get a souped up Win box instead. Fusion and Parallels are the only virtualizers that seem to run without issue regardless of apps. Sole issue with Fusion is it doesn't access Firewire devices (such as scanners - volumes mounted by OS X are no issue). Not sure about Parallels in that regard. -- I was born a 1%er - I'm just more equal than the rest.

A big advantage of Crossover is that you don't need to install a full copy of Ms-Windows, with the big requirement of hard disk space it needs. Also you don't need to pay for the related license. -- Enviado desde mi iPad usando NewsTap, Juan I. Cahis, Santiago de Chile.

The big disadvantage is that Crossover and the other WINE style systems simply don't work properly, because they don't actually have access to MS Windows.

For my requirements, Crossover works perfectly, and because I don't have tons of free disk space in my MacBook Air, I cannot install VMWare with a full copy of Ms-Windows there. Thanks Juan I. If you have *very* *very* simple requirements, then Crossover / WINE may just about "work", but they'll never ever work "perfectly" - the simple fact is that they can't and almost none of the applications listed as "compatibvle" will work properly / fully.

OK, it depends if your opinion refers to the general user requierements or it refers to a mathematical demonstration of the correctness of a computer program. I agree with you. But I use CrossOver with more than 20 general purpose windows applications since seven years ago without any problem. Even I check and work with my Usenet Newsgroups, as I am doing now, using Agent for Windows under CrossOver, because I think that there isn't any Mac program as good as Agent for this purpose. And since seven years ago, Agent works in this ambient a lot more stable than when I had a full Windows XP machine to do the same job. Maybe this explanation will be useful to the OP. Thanks Juan I. Since Agent isn't one of their "approved" programs, all I could do is contact the vendor for Agent. They scratched their head. Then I tried it on Parallels and it didn't work either. I'm beginning to wonder now. -- DeeDee, don't press that button! DeeDee! NO! Dee... [I filter all Goggle Groups posts, so any reply may be automatically ignored]
