Linux is great. Just not as a general purpose desktop OS.

My stock, plain vanilla 21.5" 2012 iMac reboots in a minute and seven
seconds during which time I can walk away, pour myself a cup of coffee
or maybe take a fast wiz. Alternatively, I can stick my head out the
door and smell the roses...or if my lovely wife is around, cop a quick feel.
But hey, you want to stay sedentary in your chair and initiate a complex
multi-step troubleshoot all the while building up callouses on your
finger tips and inviting thrombophlebitis, knock yourself out! Me? I
never bring a machine gun to a mouse hunt.

I've never timed it, but my beige PowerMac G3 boots into Mac OS X 10.2 in less than a minute, and quite a bit longer for Mac OS 9.2. Those who complain about the Mac boot times are simply impatient.

I do it so seldom it's not worth mention.

Nice how you couch that in terms that make my approach look silly - esp.
given your silly suggestion to reset PRAM... You need to look also at
the future - and I'd rather spend the future knowing how to get around a
problem or solving it instead of re-booting and reinforcing bad habits
again and again.
Further, while the end-to-end boot time may be as you state, that does
not account for interrupting work, saving the state of whatever
documents are open, and then returning to that state of machine and mind
afterward.
The things I list above can all be done in about 15 seconds. Never
mind a minute.

In the context that I described such workarounds cannot cause a later
bite - all they do is "release" whatever is hanging up presently - as
described in my first post.

Sure - about 15 times/year on average for me.
