When you click "Mouse," does the System Preferences window change to the
Mouse window?

Yes, but when i click "Bluetooth" it just spins and does not see the HP
mouse, even though it is working.

If it is using a USB dongle, it is not a Bluetooth mouse so far as the
computer is concerned; it is a USB mouse to the computer.

Sounds like he's all set. Just unclick the scroll direction box near
the top of the window, in the middle. (I've decided I like "natural.")

I'm confused. Did a problem actually ever exist?

In Linux, when I turned the wheel towards me, the page scrolled down, and
the opposite. In my iMac, the opposite happened, when I turned the wheel
towards me the page went up. By unticking the box, as pointed out to me
by some helpful people, this is now not a problem.

Well, it never was a problem, in fact. What's happened is that whereas
previously you scrolled the *scrollbar*, these days you are scrolling
the window *content*. Once you appreciate that, it becomes clear that
the change that Apple has made to the default makes sense.

I rarely use the scrollbar, these days, and I also realised that for a
very long time I haven't needed the arrows that we used to have at the
ends of scroll bars, either.

a Web page appears to be yearning for the bad old days, before the Web,
when you had very little chance of reading a document written on another
computer, another word processor, or another network. -- Tim Berners-Lee

In the old days we kissed mohammed's ass, these days we kiss his dick ...

Fine then, I'm drinking coffee and rolling cigarettes and looking
out at the hot baked street and a lady just walked by wiggling it
in tight white pants, and we are not dead yet.

Another one with a donkey fixation. Or perhaps it's just a usenet bot.

In the old days, Christians killed in Jesus' name; these days, some of
them still do.

Of course that only makes sense (to most) with a touch input.

I hate touchpads, I do not use them on any of my laptops, two Thinkpads,
one HP 6515b, and an Acer netbook. I have always used a mouse.

I use an MS Trackball Optical and a Wacom Intuos Tablet for my desktop
Mac. For my MBP I have a very nice Kensington BT mouse.

I'm using a wired ADB Mouse II with my PowerMac G3 (one button, no
silly scrollball/wheel) and there's an old Logitech (I think) wired USB
Windoze mouse attached to our iBook G4 - partly because we find
trackpads to be hopeless and partly because this particular trackpad is
wearing out anyway.

By default, unless they prefer otherwise, I always turn off the second
button on Apple mice when installing computers for people, and
especially turn off the silly "squeeze me" button on that particular
mouse model. I also turn off most, if not all, the touch controls on
the current Apple-shipped mouse.

Right-clicking seems an odd thing to turn off nowadays. Why hobble
oneself by making one hold down control every time one needs a
contextual menu, not to mention actual right click for some apps and
games?

I bought an Apple touchpad about three years ago, and figured that if I
didn't like it, I'd return it during the two-week return period. I'm
still using it.

Since using the original IBM mouse in the 80's, I am still a "mouse"
guy! I am sick of "finger" related pads, both on computers and phones.
