In Yosemite, is there a way to open a folder that's in another folder, and keep the first folder open, without having to press the Command key? Tom Evans

That doesn't work. Only Michelle's way works: left-clicking on the folder I want to open and then in the resulting pop-up window clicking on "Open in New Window". Thanks, Tom Stiller and Michelle. (Finally after three weeks I'm getting the numerous aggravating and time-consuming problems sorted out thet were caused by upgrading to Yosemite and Adobe Creative Cloud.) Tom Evans

Right clicking. But I find command-clicking to be easier.
