Linux on the Desktop is great! Which desktop? You have many to choose from. Linux scales to fit *your* needs. Windows doesn't, not really. And I doubt OSX does, either. -- No guts, no glory.

The resellers themselves do advertise a bit more, although even then it's mostly just as part of the electronics chain stores' normal junk mail brochures or newspaper adverts alongside stuff from other companies. Then again, there is no "Apple New Zealand" and no official Apple Stores (there are a couple of Apple-specific resellers such as Yoobee and iStore).

The delightful irony here is that the Linux fangirls are swooning about the number of Android phones... ...but ignoring the fact that companies such as Samsung spend more on advertising than Apple does. And when you add up what the various Android manufacturers spend in total it is FAR more than Apple spends advertising the iPhone. But apparently, when people choose Android it's because they're wise and perceptive, but when they choose Apple, it's only because they're "mindless drones" swayed by advertising. :-)

And parading around a Starbucks with the lighted Apple logo on the laptop gets you the cuter girls because it is a sign you are more intelligent and more affluent (and likely hipster too). You don't see Linux people parading flounting their equipment at a Starbucks because Linux people aren't proud of it. They make do with Linux because that is all they got, Sure, they will say that the OS doesn't matter, it is how you use it, but everyone knows that women prefer OS-X over Linux even though publicly they'll see it doesn't matter. :-) <ducking>
