Assuming I get one it will likely be the 42mm with the cheapest band. That's the sport version with the supposedly tougher glass. But, I might (with some creative home accounting) go for the stainless steel case.

I want the 38mm steel one with the Milanese loop, but probably will get the Sport with the elstopolymer band. Apparently, the black band comes only with the space gray watch, and the space gray watch comes only with the black band.

No you can't fit a standard watch strap directly to an Apple Watch ... but there is at least one adaptor that you can slot into the Apple Watch's connector and then use any standard watch strap (of appropriate width) using those small spring-loaded pins that often ping across the room when you try to remove / insert them. :-) And for those who think the Apple Watch is too expensive, you can get a Chinese knock-off look-alike for about US$60.

There are certain combinations of body and band that are sold together; it remains to be seen how Apple will sell the bands. However, most of the bands have individual prices, so it may be possible to buy a band separately. But some bands are designed to go with certain bodies. The Modern Buckle, for instance, is made only for the 38mm body. The Leather Loop is made only for the 42mm body. The Classic Buckle comes only in black. The black sports band apparently comes only with the black or space gray colors, and with the gold body. The fastener of the bands that come with the gold body is made of the same gold as the body. (Only the black and white sports bands come with the gold body.) Also inset of the crown is the same color as the band. The Rose Gray and Bright Red Modern Buckle come only with the gold body, and apparently are not available separately.

Okay, so one time? In band camp? Michelle Steiner <michelle@michelle.org> was all, like: > In article <me2fae$fal$1@dont-email.me>, John McWilliams > <jpmcw@comcast.net> wrote: >> > I want the 38mm steel one with the Milanese loop, but probably will get >> > the Sport with the elstopolymer band. It APPEARS that the only bands that you cannot buy separately are the edition bands, and even there, I bet you will be able to buy a second or third $7000 band with your watch if you want. For the non-edition models you can buy any *extra* bands that you want, but you cannot buy a, for example, space grey steel Apple Watch ($1049/99) and get a rubber band instead of the $500 band it comes with. So you'd need to spend $1049/99 and then spend another $50 on the band. -- http://2blog.kreme.com I'm the best singer in Tasmania. With teeth.

Well, actually only the sports model comes in Space Gray; the stainless steel model comes in black, not Space Gray. But other than that minor correction, it appears that you are right. Further, it appears that the only way to get the black link steel band is with the black steel watch; it does not appear to be sold separately, nor with any other watch case.

Somehow too feminine - but when I'm wearing cocktail dress ... maybe.

And frankly I have no issues with wearing a long cocktail dress. Hides my hairy legs.
