I'm not sure if it's a sign of new models coming "soon" or just holiday
weekend sales starting early (Easter and then ANZAC Day over the next
two weekends), but here in New Zealand there's a few stores offering
10% discounts on all Apple Mac computers - they started last weekend,
if not the weekend before, and there's more this weekend.

Apple adjusted pricing in NZ. recently.

Nope. These are brief sales, not new pricing. They do happen
occasionally from one reseller or another, but there's been quite a few
of them from multiple resellers over the last couple of weeks, which is
SOMETIMES an indicator of new models coming "soon" (although "soon"
often means announced two / three months later).

Yes one of my local outlets in Switzerland was offering 10% off selected
models for a few days up until the end of March.

Some price tiers on the App Store apparently got cheaper (I haven't
looked into the specifics), due to the NZ$ going up relative to the US$
since Apple last set the prices.

I haven't noticed any changes in the pricing for physical Apple products
from the online store (or standard retail pricing). Apple's normal
pattern is that they only adjust those prices for exchange rate changes
when a new model is released. Sometimes they adjust prices for related
products at the same time. Sometimes long lived products eventually get
a price adjustment if the exchange rate has shifted significantly.

This tends to lead to countries outside the US having inconsistent
pricing between Apple products, depending on when each product was
released relative to other Apple products, and the exchange rate at the
time each product was released.

There have been occasional 10% sales through retailers in NZ, e.g. I
remember buying my previous MacBook Pro from Dick Smith via a 10% sale
on Anzac Day (25 April) in 2010.

It does seem that there are more sales than usual at the moment. I can
think of many possible reasons for this, including low Mac sales,
overstocking, competition between retailers, or new models coming soon.

Looking at what is known about Intel's planned release of processors,
the only Mac model with a good chance of being updated soon is the iMac.
Intel is supposed to be releasing speed bump refreshes of the Haswell
desktop processors in May. That would allow Apple to do a minor iMac
update.

The Mac Mini hasn't been updated since late 2012. It might get a delayed
update to Haswell (notebook) processors around the same time as a minor
iMac release. Since the introduction of Intel Mac, Mac Mini updates have
occurred around the time the iMac got updated, but sometimes the Mac
Mini missed out (the Mac Mini was not updated with the Early 2008 or
Late 2013 iMacs).

The MacBook Air and Pro will be waiting on the next generation of
processors (Broadwell). Earlier reports were estimating late 2014 for
those processors, but some (probably the low power variants) could be
available in Q3 (July to September). If that turns out to be correct,
then the MacBook Air could be updated by about September, with MacBook
Pros being updated later in the year, or even pushed into 2015.

If Intel was to release speed bumped Haswell notebook processors, that
could allow a minor update of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro on a
shorter timeframe. I haven't noticed any rumours about such processors.

In summary: with the possible exception of the iMac, I don't think the
10% off sales in NZ indicate anything about upcoming new Macs.

I haven't noticed any recent changes in the App Store prices here in
Switzerland, but I've only checked the Apple products and one or two
third party ones.

The Swiss Franc has been a bit greater than 1.1 USD for quite a while
(today I see a mid-rate of 1.14181). App Store prices are more or less
the same as the USD price, which feels reasonable because they include 8%
VAT. The rounding tends to differ, with items being rounded to whole
Francs. My most recent purchase was USD 9.95-ish and the price here
was 10.00 Swiss Francs.

The entry level Mac mini here is ~699 Francs from Apple which seems a bit
steep when the USD price is 599. However it is available at one of the
discount outlets here for 649 and that was ~600 during their "up to 10% off"
offer until the end of March.

It may be a coincidence but the "10% off" sale I mentioned above was for
iMacs and minis.

I've got a hunch about the mini, but will wait and see. If a new model
results in decent discounts on the current models I might just bite.

Here in New Zealand they used to do the "10% off sales" on specific
models (iMacs *OR* MacBook Pro, etc.), but the last couple of years has
seen them more usually be "10% off all Apple Macs" ... *possibly* they
got told off by Apple for singling out the model about to be updated,
or it could (as David Empson said) just be them trying to reduce stock
levels.

As far as I've noticed these sales always exclude custom-built Macs,
but only sometimes say "limited stock" or "shop stock only" - one of
the recent sales did say "limited stock".

I can't really see them having a sale to sell more Macs simply for the
sake of selling. These are retailers who sell various makes of
computers and the retailer margin on Apple computers is already small,
so they'd be better off trying to sell the more profitable WIndows PCs
instead.

You're lucky! The New Zealand price on the Apple Online Store for the
base model Mac Mini is US$824 at current exchange rates, although that
does include New Zealand's 15% Government Sales Tax (aka Government
Stupidity Tax).

According to rumour sites, there was an announcement to developers a
couple of week ago that App Store pricing tiers were changing in a few
countries. Switzerland wasn't one of them.

Australia and a few others got more expensive, NZ got a little cheaper.

Best Buy here has occasional sales of the "Up to $100 off of select
Macs" sort from time to time, seemingly at random. Not clear if it's to
get people in the door or to tune inventory.

eg:
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/category/apple-macbooks-imacs/26217.aspx
($50 off of a MacBook Pro).
