Hello all - Using a late 2012 Mac Mini here OS 10.8.5 I am using an older Macally "IceKey" keyboard. Looks something like an older PC keyboard, however, it has two rows of auxilliary buttons on top. In earlier versions of the Mac OS, Macally provided a utility to enable usage of these keys, but they stopped supporting the extra functions a couple of years ago. Every five seconds, I seem to be getting the following entry in one of the system logs: ========= 11/9/13 10:08:40.000 AM kernel[0]: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR F1Mn kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff801c3c5000 ========= Occurs EVERY five seconds -- on and on and on and on, forever. I'm _guessing_ the above report is due to the OS checking the keyboard, and finding some "non-standard" keys therein. Or something else that doesn't register as expected. Everything else about the keyboard works fine. No slowdowns, all is ok. Except for the error reports. Anything I could look at to quell the constant parade of reports? Or... just ignore them?

Fix the hardware by replacing the iceKey keyboard with one that's not a problem. I have the Macally iKey keyboard and it "just works". $24 on Amazon. <http://www.amazon.com/Macally-iKeyslim-Hi-Speed-Keyboard-Ports/dp/B001NX DQBI> Or just ignore the problem. It won't go away but the spurious interrupts will make your error log files bigger. -- DeeDee, don't press that button! DeeDee! NO! Dee... Maybe there's afan in the keyboard to cool it down when used by those REALLY fast typists. ;-)

[[ Every five seconds, I seem to be getting the following entry in one of the system logs: ========= 11/9/13 10:08:40.000 AM kernel[0]: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR F1Mn kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff801c3c5000 ]] A followup to my original post. I did a google search and found a report that suggested the "SMC" in the original error log is from "SMC Fan Control", which I was using (but is not completely compatible with 10.8). I removed the following: /Library/StartupItems/FanControlDaemon /Library/PreferencePanes/Fan Control.prefPane ... and after a reboot, the continually repeating log errors are gone.

Try unplugging it to see if it stops. Do you have any obsolete system extensions?
