It was just a JOKE. iPhones have had a reputation of being great at
everything except phone calls.

I sent it too quickly, forgetting to add the smiley, so of course I fell

No, they have a reputation of being USED for everything except phone
calls. Not at all the same thing.

Riiiiight.

I love folks like you who live in a dream world where iPhones are bad
at making phone calls...

As a watch is massively over-priced.

As a "smart watch" it's an expensive purchase, but that's not going to
stop many fools still buying it and then underusing it / not knowing
why they bought it.

For the dumbass brigade: I said "many", not "all" ... yes, there will
also be some people who buy it for a good reason and get good use from
it.

It seems you care a lot more about the dumb asses than the smart folks
out there. Interesting.

the name has been known for 6 months: apple watch.

battery life is expected to be a day or so, comparable to other
smartwatches (other than pebble, which is the exception).

that's dumb, really a day or so is pathetic, why didn't they a use
a MEMS generator that runs off body heat and sweat

it is obviously different as it's direct skin contact

duh, it's a media event cupertino has no pizzaz
plus no one knows what the word means while we all know

The power level is tiny and of no thermal consequence to the skin or flesh.

The radio emission is non-ionizing so of no threat to cells (cancer).

It's been called Apple Watch since they announced it last year and
still is.

> it seems retro to be making a watch

It's not really a watch, although it does tell time (unlike, for
example, Goggle Glass which is not a pair of normal glasses).

Anyone buying the Apple Watch as a watch is an idiot an / or has more
money than sense.

What matters is what normal people call it. Normal people are condition
to think about i<device> so they think about iWatch.

Whether Apple's new branding is a trend away from "i<device>" or whether
the watch product will end up being called iWatch because the branding
is too strong remains to be seen.

Perhaps Apple wants a totally different non-mass market and wanted to
disassociate itself with the i-device branding meant for mass market and
go "upscale" to warrant the luxyry of that $17,000 version of the watch.

Possibly someone else owns the "iWatch" trademarks and were far too
greedy compared to what Apple was willing to pay to take over the
branding.

But most likely, since the Apple Watch is being pushed as a "fashion
accessory", they simply wanted a less geeky brand name.

seems to be they're going away from geekiness of the i-device toward
a more generic consumer market

Or has sufficient wealth, accumulated through the application of

Considering that the event will be at the Yerba Buena Center in San

it was the one *before* that was the disaster.

SF is too far to drive, especially in traffic up the 101.
