Really? I'll go looking. But feel free to quote. The SO is glaring at me... > >> - your exaggerated goal of $20K. >> (You want all upside for you with all risk on pledgers) > > If he doesn't reach that goal, we all get our money back. Actually you will never have committed it unless he reaches his goal. That aside, what remains is that if he reaches his goal he has the cash in the bank - but you have nothing until he delivers the product. As I've mentioned, $20K seems okay if he has a cash outlay (material / tooling). -- I was born a 1%er - I'm just more equal than the rest.

I'll be getting beta copies; that's one of the reason I pledged $50 instead of a smaller sum. (The other reason, as I mentioned, is his references to Firefly.)

Really? I didn't think it was taken until they met the goal. When I pledged to an indiegogo last year they had already passed the goal - but I wanted the benefit of being a participant (got a widget and for less than the retail price...) > >> That aside, what remains is that if he reaches his goal he has the cash >> in the bank - but you have nothing until he delivers the product. > > I'll be getting beta copies; that's one of the reason I pledged $50 > instead of a smaller sum. From what I understand, Indigogo and similar crowd funding sources hang onto the money until the goal is met; then they disburse it to the client. If the goal is not met, they refund it to the donors. One of the best Science Fiction TV shows ever made; unfortunately, FOX butchered it (by showing episodes out of sequence, giving it bad time slots, etc.), so it lasted only one season (without showing all of the episodes). Check it out; you can get it through iTunes.

Check it out; you can get it through iTunes. It's on Netflix as well. The intros are slightly different than the DVD versions. Great show which I have watched multiple times, every time ending up being really mad that there are only those episodes plus Serenity and that's it. Looking forward to Can't Stop the Serenity at the Riverview Theater in Minneapolis 8/14, it's an annual event in our household. Got my Fighting Elves T-shirt, need to knit myself a hat. And aim to misbehave.

Now that I think of it, the difference may be that Kickstarter uses Amazon's payment system, which is set up for pre-orders where actual payment is delayed. Indigogo uses Paypal. Well GoT is an HBO show made available via Netflix. I could be wrong, but I imagine that True Detective will be available on Netflix soon. If not consider starting season 1 of Justified on Netflix (I am not sure if this is available for streaming just DVD/BL). Then there is season 1 of the excellent American/Mexican rewrite of "The Bridge" (The original is Danish/Swedish) an FX show which is supposed to be available sometime next week on Netflix. -- Regards, Savageduck

I saw all three seasons of the very good original UK version, and that led me to the Netflix release. -- Regards, Savageduck

I expect it’s because they don’t want anyone to take back their support at the last minute. Anybody know if Kickstarter works differently? I’d really like people to not be on the hook at all until the trigger amount is first hit. > > That aside, what remains is that if he reaches his goal he has the cash > > in the bank - but you have nothing until he delivers the product. > > I'll be getting beta copies; And you’d be getting tomorrow what I’m using today, which is a *far* better deal than the “wait for months until my widget that’s nothing but $.50 of injection moulded plastic is ready . . . whoops, wait a few months more because it turns out that manufacturing is a lot different than whipping up a 3D rendering and asking everyone for $5” crowdfunding projects that Alan apparently has no problem putting money towards. -- dn ƃuᴉʞool ǝɹɐ sƃuᴉɥʇ

I've participated in a couple of campaigns via Kickstarter. The money didn't come out of my credit card until the predetermined end time (and then only if the initial goal had been reached). In one case I adjusted my contribution level several times during the campaign, and my final choice stuck at the end date. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz
