Anyone have experience with any digital camera, compact preferably, that can wirelessly transmit pics to a Macbook (or any desktop)? Say you take a shot and you are near your own computer, is it simple to then open the file on your computer screen? -- dorayme

For my Nikon, it only works when the Eye-Fi card is in the first slot although the Nikon's software allows me to turn on the Eye-Fi card when it is on second slot. In second slot, the Eye-Fi will turn on, but doesn't get "triggered" to send images to the iPhone when a picture is taken, so there is no way to cause it to transfer images. This only happens when it is in Slot 1. (D-7000)

If you are "near your own computer" then you may well have WiFi, which
might mean that iCloud is available. But maybe you don't need iCloud.
I e-mail photos from IOS to my Mac sometimes, but I could use the
(much slower) WiFi sync.

I was thinking of dedicated pocketable cameras. But you are right, of course, that is one way to go. Apart from nospam's excellent points about via the cloud, I would be loathe to give up my tiny flip top Samsung E1150 which is just a phone and so very pocketable. It feels the right shape and size for talking into (unlike big rectangular smart phones). It even feels nice closed - doubles for me for worry beads. My ideal would be a fliptop or tiny phone with an excellent camera that could wifi its images to my Mac. Perhaps what I really need in life is a complete slave to do all this stuff for me. Pass me the G11, Jeeves. Get that picture of the mountain in the mist I took in Bali on my Cybershot onto my Mac's HD, Jeeves! -- dorayme

Thanks. I was wondering what any of you might actually have that you
were happy with. As for type of camera, I was happy to hear about your
milage.
Me, apart from film cameras, I have a couple of digital cameras, one
an old Cybershot compact, and a Canon G11. The cybershot is terrific
in that, plugged into USB on my Mac, it comes up as a disk and, from
there, it is easy enough to grab whatever. The Canon is more devious,
a program comes up, and you manipulate what you want from there (in
other words it is not simple Finder work). Neither is rocket science
but I have this idea that it would be nice to have a camera near your
Mac and see what is on it on your Mac screen and grab what you want
without fiddling with plugs and cables. Grab? Download, transfer it to
the HD of the Mac.
As for any camera that did this that *I* might buy, it would have to
be something small and easily pocketable (unlike my very fine G11).
The Canon and Nikon, even Lumix has some features along this line.
Maybe one of you lot have experience with such and can tell me your
impressions.
I don't mind how complicated the set up (please remember, I solved The
Desert Problem, took me ages but I did it and I did it my way) but I
want it to be dead simple to actually use otherwise might as well
stick to usb cables!

Get an Eye-Fi card for your G11. I shoot a Nikon D300S, a G11 and
occasionally with my iPhone.

I can get
Mobi 8GB
memory card
$49.99
to replace the present 4GB.
Not bad, thanks for the suggestion.
You got one, ie. an Eye-Fi card?

If you shoot RAW and want to Tx RAW files to your Mac the Mobi is not
the way to go. It is the simplest set up but does have some limitations
when compare with the Pro X2.

Thanks. Sounds like the 8GB above does not upload anything directly to
a computer (as distinguished from a iPhone, iPad or Android device).
What is so *relevantly* special (apart from size) of raw?
I see it does not work with home or office WiFi. I would want this.
So, if I think it worth it for my G11, I should get the one you
mention.
I am wondering what capabilities the very pocketable cameras have in
this regard? For example, can one use one's high speed home or office
wifi? Will look into it. Perhaps if someone has one of these they will
speak up and be forthcoming about the whole thing. I will certainly
investigate the matter before buying my next digital.
