Just to prove it's not only Apple that makes silly changes ...

I "upgraded" to a newer version of Firefox (still ancient by some
people's standards), and they've made some silly changes. Three I've
found so far:

   - [Not entirely if this is a change] Clicking in the address box
or search box no longer selects the existing content - you
have to manually perform a Select All.

   - Holding down the mouse button for a second or so (on a link or
bookmark for example) no longer displays the pop-up menu - you
     have to Control-Click.

   - Clicking on links in other applications causes Firefox to
open them in a new tab - in the old version it re-used the
     current tab.

Nope, at least not in this version. The only prefernce option is
whether links open in a new tab or a new window ... not reuse the
existing tab/window (which is how the previous version worked).

Here's another one ... in the old Firefox when clicking on a found link
in a Google image search there used to be a side-frame with a direct
link to the image rather than waiting for the entire original website
to load (very handy since I'm still on a dial-up connection.

In the new(er) Firefox, there is now side-frame and I'm forced to wait
for the website to load. :-(

Yeah I hated when they did that too, I used that all the time. I read it
was done to encourage the use of tabs.

I can't see how the contextual pop-up menu would discourage the use of
tabs ... in fact the only two reasons I ever use the pop-up menu is to
open a link in a new tab or to save the image. More like sheer laziness
on the part of the programmers who probably assumed everyone had a two
button mouse. :-\

How is it "lazy" to remove something? That takes extra effort (unless
they were making other changes, and it would have been more complicated
to keep this old feature working).

If an application didn't already have the feature, not adding it might
be due to laziness.

Depends whether that particular version upgrade was a re-write, or
perhaps the PC version doesn't have the feature so is added to the Mac
version, etc. Numerous possible reasons.
