When I had 10.4 I put an ethernet analog telephone adapter between my modem and my Mac. I discovered that I couldn't pull my modem up on a browser until I disconnected the ATA to connect the modem directly to my Mac. This was also true with 10.8. The router in the ATA will now let me pull up my modem on a browser. The ATA and the modem have the same old firmware. Apparently the change to 10.9 allows me to send an my modem router IP to my ATA router and chat with my modem, upstream. The technology is beyond me. When I'm dealing with an ethernet network, I don't even know if IP means Internet Protocol or Industrial Protocol.

I guess that's possible, but if you know the IP address of the modem, then you should be able to get to it, as long as it's on the same network of course. The OS *should* be irrelevant. I'm not sure why you need an ATA. You should only need a modem and a router (sometimes they're in the same box). > The technology is beyond me.
