Apple's Mac Is En Route To Dominance
> http://seekingalpha.com/article/2352165-apples-mac-is-en-route-to-dominance
Summary
Apple has showed growth for 32 out of the last 33 quarters.
In China, where the IDC reported that the PC market declined by 10%,
the Mac managed 39% growth.
The Mac is on a long-term journey of continued growth, which may
lead to PC market dominance.
Not sure how much this article is self serving for the investor trying
to boost his AAPL holdings, but it is quite a change from a couple of
years ago when the same Wall Street Casino Analysts were driving down
Apple any which way they could.
PC Market dominance ? Perhaps at hipster places like Starbucks etc, but
not sure about woldwide market dominance. Isn't Windows still orders of
magnitudes ahead in installed base ?

"DOS Computers manufactured by companies such as IBM, Compaq, Tandy,
and millions of others are by far the most popular, with about 70
million machines in use worldwide. Macintosh fans, on the other hand,
may note that cockroaches are far more numerous than humans, and that
numbers alone do not denote a higher life form."

It's gonna be between one and two orders, isn't it, assuming that Apple has, worldwide, at least 1% market penetration. -- "If you're not able to ask questions and deal with the answers without feeling that someone has called your intelligence or competence into question, don't ask questions on Usenet where the answers won't be carefully tailored to avoid tripping your hair-trigger insecurities." - D M Procida, UCSM

Wikipedia shows 6.73% as of June, 2014. Among portables the various MacBooks are reported to be above 15%, with some reports placing them at 20% of the portable market. This would likely reflect a bump from the mobile "creative pro" market; the MacBook Pro still dominates this segment. For a non-scientific, yet meaningful, indicator, look at free on-line digital photography tutorials. You'll rarely see anything other than a MacBook Pro (unless it's an iMac). Ride a commuter train from Washington to NYC and it's getting to the point where Mac OS and iPad are ubiquitous. But these are people who get to choose their own platform; they're not office-bound drones. What would be interesting, then, would be nationwide and worldwide stats on the Mac market share among employed persons whose employers allow them to choose their platform. I doubt if such stats are available. Take away 50 million secretaries, receptionists, clerks, and "data-entry technicians," and then see what the market share is. -- I agree with almost everything that you have said and almost everything that you will say in your entire life. usenet *at* davidillig dawt cawm

Even in the supposed current "PC sales decline" I'm sure that both Apple and PC makers get more than one or two orders per year. ;-)

More and more people are finally realising that Windoze is crap and are switching to Macs. As for silly "market dominance", it depends on how you mesaure such things. Apple could easily reach market dominance by selling more computers than any other single manufacturer, but it's unlikely to ever sell more OS X computers than the combined Windoze makers do.
