I do not thieve. I do try before I buy and sometimes am so
disappointed I don't buy. It's perfectly legal and encouraged by
millions of sites.
Hell, even Microsoft do it.

Not so. You can steal via other mediums than by downloading. If you
can copy from it you can steal it. This is why the Windows DVDs are
protected.
I would have thought you'd know this.

Are you talking about *this* "BridgeMaster 2000", or some other one?
https://bbi.bridgebase.com/software/bm2000.html
If it's that one then you are, sadly, perfectly correct but I didn't
know it. Sorry. The only option on that site seems to be getting a
copy of their software by airmail, which possibly means it either
comes on floppy or on CD. "003? Probably CD.
I assumed, incorrectly, that any reputable supplier would have a
download option even if it was through Digital River or some other
third party.
This is the very first time I've found one that doesn't.
I apologise for ever trying to help. I won't do it again.

So why the fuck did you automatically assume I'm a fucking thief?
Have you never, ever used trialware of any sort?
Never?
If you have, are *you* a thief?
No, I don't expect an abject and sincere apology. Not from you.
Nor from nospam.
Don't bother. I won't be reading more.
It hasn't been fun. Bye.

The only explanation I can think of is > that their niche market doesn't mind much. The company's sole focus these days is on Bridge Base Online. We don't actively support the older, standalone products that were developed in the 90's. We still sell them if people want them, but we haven't updated our infrastructure to support downloading them -- they're only available in the original CD formats. But as I mentioned in another post, a few months ago we added an online version of Bridge Master 2000. So there's no reason to buy the CD now at all. -- Barry Margolin, barmar@alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me ***

Because sites like VersionTracker [as was], Digital River,
CNet-downloads and many, many others store and distribute software for
the people who write it. You would know this were you more than six
years old and allowed out into the community.
I suppose it is not your fault that you are confined but you really
should stop accusing people of theft before you investigate the
possibility that they might actually be adults and know far, far more
about damned near everything than you ever will, you decaying,
dehydrated potted plant.

*TRIALWARE*.
*SHAREWARE*
*CRIPPLEWARE*
Free offers.
Of course, being a care-in-the-community case and having many special
needs you possibly haven't encountered those.
Mybe I shouldn't be so harsh on such a witless lump of ooze as you?

No. Not always, and it is either theft or copyright violation. Piracy
involves vehicles, guns and pain.
Have you never encountered, as one example, "Giveaway of the day"?
They have a Mac OSX version, and have just started doing Mac mobile
and Android. This is but one of *MANY*.
But a head full of rancid sausage meat like yours would not be able
to cope with that concept, now would it? To you, a company giving away
its stuff is automatically theft.
You must have a tiny, mean and sorry life.
I almost pity you.

Your assessment of anything couldn't be on target if we posted it to
you.
You have all the wit and judgment of raw sewage.

Yes, it is. Trialware.
And for thirty days even if you *are* going to buy it.
Try getting an adult to go to Microsoft's download pages and explain
all the big words to you. Maybe they can use little dollies and
crayons to help with your limited comprehension skills?

Advocating such things is in itself unlawful, you dimwitted puke.

Oh, for fucks sake ... have you just clicked that you have been

Are you now going to abjectly and truly apologise?
Question: how do you know I am not a lawyer?

"Stolen" or "violated copyright". Piracy is an entirely different
set of felonies.

AND MAY NOT. Did you ever consider that before screaming about theft?
No, because you have so limited a wit that holding two ideas at once
would utterly and irrevocably crash your tiny mind.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx
Get a responsible adult to show you how to highlight the word
"Downloads" to show a drop-down menu. Get a second responsible adult
to explain what those big words mean.
In the drop-down menu, on the left column the fourth lie down is
"Free Downloads". Clicking on that takes you to Windows 78.1 which is
a *FREE* piece of Microsoft software. Not trialware, not crippleware,
not try-before-you-buy shareware or even cardware but entirely free,
yes, FREE, software. From Microsoft. And they *WANT YOU TO TAKE IT*.
In the same menu, on the left side still, but nine lines down from
the "Downloads" line is "Free Trials".
Yes, free trials, from Microsoft and they want you to take them.
Now, millions of other sites, including Giveawayoftheday.com and
their Gamegiveaway.com sister site and SourceForge and many others
offer free softwares. Tucows.com was founded on it.
You are a total idiot.
And you should now apologise to me most heartily and sincerely but I
know for a fact you won't.
Tiny little children never do.

Tucows.com was founded on it. i never said there isn't free software. there's a lot of free software, and much of it is crap. generally, you get what you pay for. i also said that windows isn't free, and it isn't. anyone who obtains a free copy of windows has done so illegally. very simple. in another post, you said you can't afford windows. if it was free you wouldn't have said that. yet another contradiction. > You are a total idiot. except you're the one who keeps contradicting yourself. that makes you the idiot.

you?

*Piracy* is not a civil offence, you stupid little child. *Piracy* is
extremely uncivil.

For fucks sake you stupid rotting foetid piece of vegetative muck,
that ninth line down is a separate and distinct *other* piece of
software, or softwares.
You really are the thickest, most ill-mannered, stupidest item I've
had to deal with since last I encountered a politician. You make
religious zealots look like reasonable, calm and wise individuals. You
are a walking turd, a prat of the first water and a deeply stupid
being.
Grow up, child, learn how to read. Stop posting your incorrect, inane
drivel until you actually learn enough to be a contributor.
In short, short-arse, fuck off.

Uhhn honey-child, *which* Mr. Know-it-all was right? Me or nospam?
Enquiring minds want to know.
My wife had a fridge magnet with a cute little saying on it:
"When I married Mr. Right I didn't know his first name was *Always*".
I thought that was very funny.

To conclude this phase of the conversation: the lady in question was
exceedingly bright and wise and highly intelligent and well educated
and rarely wrong. When she was it was because she had been
mis-informed not due to her own biases. She was also cute, lovely,
wonderful and the maker of the best curries on this or any other
planet.
And the fridge magnet was a private joke between us as she knew that
I was *not* one of those males who insists the little woman is always
in the wrong. I learned a *lot* from her. Some of it was even
printable in a family newsgroup.
She was my life and my love.
And she had a wicked sense of humour.
