I'll bet $100,000 it will not be.

I'm willing to use an escrow service and deposit the money by Friday and
pay all of the fees. In advance. Just tell me when you can make your
deposit and we'll wait it out from then. When 10.11 is announced we'll
settle.

The only Mavericks I knew about were Bret, Bart, and Beau. And now
Yosemite Sam? Warner Brothers is behind it. I anticipate Bugs, Kookie,
F Troop, and Sugarfoot.

Yosemite is known around the world. Not by everyone, of course, but
plenty of people will know exactly how to pronounce it.

Granted, people who grew up on Bugs Bunny will know. But once you get
past Yellowstone, I don't think U.S. national parks are all that well
known across either big pond, especially ones whose pronunciation is not
immediately obvious.

Not that it matters much.

How much time have you spent in Yosemite? When I'm there in the summer
(which isn't often, as I try to avoid that time of the year), I hear
almost more German, Japanese, and British/Australian English than I do
American English. Those folks LOVE visiting the American West.

Also, Yosemite has two sister parks in China and one in Chile, so a
fair number of people in those countries must be familiar with it.

Along with Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon, it's one of the best-known
U.S. national parks in the world.

Thank you.

Yosemite is more widely known than the precious Snow Leopard. Oddly, I
am five miles from the Park, heading to Glacier Point in two hours.

The current version is much different ... Mav-ricks or Mav-er-icks or

Who refers to the OS by the name anyhow? It's always been (to me at
least) Ten-eight, ten-nine, etc.

I could never see the point in the animals, or the current nomenclature
for that matter. Which came first- lion or panther? I think Snow
Leopard was later but I have no idea what the number was.

Exactly. The names are a pointless and useless marketing gimmick that
mean nothing to anyone. Using them is one of the sillier decisions made
by Apple.

The names make searching for informaiton easier - search engines tend
to give more junk results if you search by version number.

They shouldn't do if the search engine is used properly with quote
marks enclosing the phrase, "mac os x 10.9".

Names are far easier to remember than numbers. I, and I assume along
witih many others, could not tell you whether the latest operating
system is 10.8 or 10.9 or .....

Of course it is, but I'd have to look there to be sure of the version
number I'm running. But I have no problem remembering that I'm running
Mavericks, and am anxiously awaiting Yosemite!
