OS-X v 10.9.4
Sending mail, w/o warning, stopped working yesterday and started putting messages in outbox went I attempted to send instead of sending them. This morning 14 hrs later they remain there. Incoming mail works fine. Any solutions?

You might go to mail> preferences> account information> outgoing mail
server to see if a working server is selected.

Please don't multi post. I have replied to your question in one of the
other news groups where you posted this, telling you where to look for
more details about the problem. It'll be up to you to figure out which
news group that is since I can't recall offhand.

If you send the same message to multiple news groups separately, it
forces everyone else to download and read your message multiple times in
each news group. To make matters worse, if someone replies to one of
your posts in one news group, the other news groups in which you posted
the message will not see that reply. This means you will have various
people responding in various news groups, which starts multiple
discussion threads that are disconnected from one another. This is known
as "multi-posting", and is generally regarded as inconsiderate and
inefficient.

In most cases, if you want to post the same message to multiple news
groups, you will want to include all of the news groups, separated by
commas, in the "Newsgroups" line of a single post, like so:

Newsgroups: comp.sys.mac.system,comp.sys.mac.apps

This way the message is simultaneously posted to all specified news
groups. More importantly, when someone replies to your message in one
group, that reply is automatically sent in all other news groups to
which you sent the post. This means all participants are able to see the
entire discussion thread, no matter which news group they are viewing at
the time. This is called "cross-posting" and is the proper way to do it.

Open the outbox and double-click on one of the messages (any one of
them); then click the paper airplane again.

Speaking of which, I wonder why Apple hasn't changed that icon in its
drive for simplicity in the interface.

Isn't that like pushing the garage door remote opener button harder and
harder if the door doesn't go up?

It should result in an error message dialog box being displayed
outlining the problem.

No. I've found that items will stay in the outbox until I try to
explicitly send them again. Apparently, there is no automatic resend.

Depends. If the server or client aren't configured correctly, the message
won't send no matter how many times you try. That said, I would expect
Mail to give some sort of indication that there is a problem when you try
to send again.

That can actually work if the button is starting to fail - pressing it
hard (and maybe wiggling it around) can cause it to make contact with
an unworn part of the electronics. :-)

Yeah well my wife mistook her remote with a just-gone-bad battery for a
thumb-strength tester and ruined it. $35 at the Home Depot for a new one;-)

My father used his fingernail to press the button in some weird way
that means the remote now has most of the plastic scratched off of the
open / close button (it's a small keyring remote with a thin plastic
covering across the whole face) ... it still works though. My mother
thought it had finally broken a couple of weeks ago, but simply
replacing the battery got it going again.
