Look sweet cheeks, unless you're self-employed, (and I doubt a
potty-mouth like you could be, at least for long), your boss gave it to
you.
All compensation, benefits, perks, vacation, sick leave, work
environment & fixtures, etc., come from your employer. That also
includes the water fountain, the latrine, and the spatula you use to
flip the burgers...

Judicious use of "potty mouth" language is indicative of high intelligence and a superior vocabulary. > All compensation, benefits, perks, vacation, sick leave, work > environment & fixtures, etc., come from your employer. That also > includes the water fountain, the latrine, and the spatula you use to > flip the burgers... Right, but you are not that employer, and a nut case like you would never be an employer. As has been pointed out, these benefits come at the expense of a slightly lower salary; ultimately, though, as with employer-provided health insurance, both parties benefit. It is not a zero-sum thing.

It's paid for via the over-bloated prices the customers pay for the products / services the company sells ... just like the money paying the management's / owner's over-bloated pay packet and the greedy shareholders over-bloated returns.

Similarly, the "free" heat and hot water in my apartment building is paid for by the tenants in the form of increased rent. But FREE really looks good to prospective employees and tenants! - Joe

I worked for a publicly traded co. When we moved from one building where we brewed our coffee in the lab, to a new building, having lab coffee brew setups was forbidden. A company was selected to bring in the new coffee machines. Not bad, but nowhere as good as our old lab coffee ... and we had to pay for the coffee. But not the machine in the corporate area. That machine was "free" to corporate personnel. The employees were subsidizing coffee for the Pres, some VP's, some senior directors and their staff. So I stopped paying for the coffee at the machine and did without.

What he failed to realize is that Facebook and Google don't attract as many people as they do based solely on free coffee, free soda, and live plants. - Joe

Yep, they attract people by having playground slides in the office (hence why they're mostly 12 year olds) and letting their individual workers do virtually no work all day long.

The only thing that is truly free is a drink of water (if you satnd in the rain with your mouth open) and the air you breathe (unless you live / work underwater, high in the mountains, or in space) ... EVERYTHING else is paid for by someone. Usually in the end that someone is the general public through over-bloated prices for products / service and taxes.

Most people take full advantage alright, even having their breakfast cereal at work using office milk! "Nobody" was hyperbole, BUT many people are actually snobs. They can't be seen drinking instant or office coffee. They must go out (to waste more time) and buy it from coffee shop made by an "expert barrista in a cup proudly displaying the logo of Starbucks / The Coffee Club / etc.

I did put it in quotes (although the closing one went missing thanks to a typo). I really only used Starbucks because it's a brand Americans would know. > Support your local espresso house! They don't need support ... their over-pricing gives them plenty of support. There's actually one small privately owned coffee shop in the central city that sells coffee at about half the price of the big brand shops.
